Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, June 5, 2019

Join us at the Voorheesville Public Library at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 7, for this two-hour introductory class where we will cover the basics of how the library’s Lulzbot Mini2 3D Printer works.

Then we will start personalizing our own designs using Tinkercad, a free and easy 3D design tool. The Library will print your design, and you will be able to take it home.

This workshop is open to everyone 13 years of age and older. Please register.

Second Sunday Film

The library, on Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m., will screen a two-hour movie, rated PG-13, which the Internet Movie Database describes this way: “On a summer vacation in the Singapore home of a man she hopes to marry, Chinese-American Rachel Chu is unexpectedly introduced to a rich and scheming clan that strongly opposes its member’s relationship with an American girl.”

Light refreshments will be served.

Needle Felting for Beginners

Please join Alison Swanson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, as she guides beginners in a wool needle felting project to create a cute cat. No experience is necessary, supplies will be provided — just bring your creativity! Please register.

Building your brand

Your brand is the unique image or perception someone has when thinking about you or something associated with you. The brand acts as your public image and is what distinguishes you from others.

Join us at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 12, to learn how to build your own particular brand using an elevator speech, business cards, working a room and unlocking your three Circles of Influence. You will also learn how to integrate social media into a comprehensive networking strategy.

Rock painting

Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, to explore the joy of painting on rocks. This relaxing, therapeutic craft will help to ease some of your everyday stress, while allowing your creative side to flourish.

Use your artwork to decorate a garden or walkway, or make a new pet! Open to all ages, please register.

Throne of Glass Party

Fans of the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas are invited to enjoy book-related activities, tackle assassin tests, and share snacks from 7:00 to 8:30pm, on Friday, June 14.  If you love fantasy, check out a copy of Throne of Glass, read, and join in the fun. Grades 8 and up, please register.

“Stonewall Uprising:

The Year that changed America”

Join us at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 21, for the screening of this Public Broadcasting System film.

“When police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in the Greenwich Village section of New York City on June 28, 1969, the street erupted into violent protests that lasted for the next six days. The Stonewall riots, as they came to be known, marked a major turning point in the modern gay civil rights movement in the United States and around the world,” according to PBS.
