Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, May 18, 2022
Explore the landscape of Thacher Park and learn how to identify different kinds of rocks and fossils. We will be meeting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Paint Mine parking lot, across the street from the Thacher Visitor Center.
Join us as we learn about the geologic history of the park. This program is subject to weather cancellation, so registration is required.
Bricks, Bits & Bots
Children in grades k through 5 are invited to register for this learning program, scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, May 26. We will use LEGO® bricks for building, littleBits for inventing, and Ozobots to learn easy coding. There’s something for everyone!
Teen Time
Students in grade 6 and up, please register to come to the library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, May 27 to unwind with some friends. Play group games or board games. Play Switch games on the big screen. Magic the Gathering cards are available and we’ll help you build a winning deck. The library is always a great place to kick back and unwind.
Library Tots
Children ages up to 30 months, with a caregiver, are invited to join us as Library Tots begins for the summer. We will be getting together inside the library for a fun program, featuring songs, fingerplays, body movement, felt board stories, and books! Join Miss Lisa Thursday mornings at 10 a.m., beginning on June 2. No registration is needed.
Free concert
Join us for a free concert in the library community room, at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 2. The Wright-Quigley Duo will perform works for flute and guitar written by composers from the 19th century up to the present day, including works by Giuliani, Ibert, Pujol, and more. This performance is sponsored by the Start UP New York grant, administered by the Arts Center of the Capital Region and the Jim Clark Community Performance Fund and the Albany Musicians Association, Local 14, AFM. No registration needed.
Substance Abuse
Prevention 101
Parents of students in grades 5 and up are invited to join us at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 2 for this all important prevention program. Parents are the number one influence on a teen’s decision not to use alcohol and drugs. Guest speakers Diane Blinn and Chris Gilhooly, both Licensed Clinical Social Workers, will prepare parents to lower their child’s risk of abusing substances through clear communication and consequences. Parents will leave this program ready to begin substance abuse prevention conversations with their middle and high school-aged students.. Please register.

The Voorpl is excited to keep our community reading, learning, and exploring with the Summer Adventure @ the Voorpl. Registration opens on June 1 for all programs.
Registering for programs helps us to determine supply needs. Unless otherwise indicated, registration is requested for all programs. You can register in person, by phone 518-765-2791 or using our online calendar at http://voorheesvillelibrary.org/calendar.asp. You do NOT need to be a resident of Voorheesville to attend a program.
