Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, May 13, 2015

Do you need a quiet place to work? Need a space for your study group to meet? Come to the Voorheesville Public Library. The community room is open and set up for quiet work on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals and small groups are welcome or drop in during regular hours.

Beginning beaded jewelry

On Tuesday, May 19, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the library you can learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Want to move beyond basic bead stringing? We’ll demonstrate wire looping, and then you can give it a try. This program is for adults and teens ages 14 and up. Please register and there will be a small materials fee.

Meet the author

Come in on Sunday, May 17, at 11:30 a.m., for a pancake breakfast and meet local author Jean Marotta. She is the author of Momma Jean’s Kitchen, and will be talking about writing, publishing, and cooking. This program is open to all. Please register.

Teen volunteers

Students needing community service credit can volunteer at the library. Some student volunteer jobs include helping prepare crafts, working with younger kids during programs, dusting and straightening shelves, removing book labels, sorting and alphabetizing donations, and some computer tasks.  Give us a call at 765-2791 and ask for Mrs. Sternklar. Bring your school form to the scheduled appointment and we’ll get you started.

LGBTQ Family Story time

The library is pleased to offer LGBTQ Family Story Time on Saturday, May 30, at 10:15 a.m. This program is intended for LGBTQ families, allies, and supporters with children from infancy to first grade. Come enjoy stories, songs, and activities celebrating the beauty of families. Socialize with each other and check out library books. No registration is necessary.

Center Families is an emerging program of the Pride Center of the Capital District. We are dedicated to helping LGBTQ families in the Capital Region achieve their goals of building and sustaining happy and healthy families.

Alzheimers Disease:

Early Detection Matters

Join us on Monday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m., when Erica Salamida, program manager from the Northeastern New York Alzheimer’s Association, will discuss the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, its time to learn the facts. Early detection is the key to improving quality of life for anyone affected by memory impairment. This interactive workshop will present the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease where myth will be separated from fact. Commonly held fears about the disease will be addressed. Hear from people who have the disease and find out how to recognize the signs in yourself and others. Please register.

Holiday hours

In observance of Memorial Day, the library will be closed on Saturday, May 23, Sunday, May 24, and Monday, May 25.
