Cooking with eggs
Students in grades four through eight are invited to join us on Friday, April 21 at 1:30 p.m. to learn how to make an egg burrito. Once you know how to prepare this single dish, you will never go hungry at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. After scrambling your eggs, you’ll add your favorite ingredients, roll them up and enjoy.
Race and the Constitution: Criminal Justice Controversies
This program series looks at racism in the US as a series of legal problems. Join us on Monday, April 24 at 7 p.m. to discuss the key rights established by court rulings as well as legislation, and examine those rights in operation. The program will be led by Stephan Haimowitz (JD, Rutgers University, 1975).
The next and final program in this series, The Debates about Affirmative Action and Voting Barriers, will be held on Monday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
Bhutan
You are invited to take a tour of Bhutan: Land of the Thunder Dragon, on Wednesday, April 26, at 7 p.m. Learn about the dramatic landscapes, rich Buddhist culture and local cuisine through the photographs and stories of local resident Jerry Andritz.
Beading workshop
The library provides the space, tools, and a variety of beads for your next jewelry project. Adults and teens are invited to drop in, anytime between 5:30 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 to create something both personal and decorative.
Learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Check out our beading books and magazines for inspiration. There will be a small materials fee based on your project choice.
Race and the Constitution: Affirmative Action
At 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1 is the last night in our Race and the Constitution series, where we will look at racism in the US as a series of legal problems. We will discuss the key rights established by court rulings as well as legislation, and examine those rights in operation. Issues will be addressed in their historical context, and the workings of the legal system will be explored. The focus will be practical realities rather than theory.
The program will be led by Haimowitz who has worked on a broad range of civil rights matters, and invited guests include an Albany County Judge and Albany Law School student. All are welcome – there are no required readings, though articles, books, and films will be suggested.
Trustees meet
The next Board of Trustees meeting will be at 7 p.m., Monday April 24.
