Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, April 19, 2018
On Saturday, April 21, children ages 3 to 7 with their parents or caregivers are invited to learn about Earth Day with Miss Amy at the Voorheesville Public Library.
We will share stories about recycling, endangered animals, and different ways we can help our planet. Program will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Please register.
Preschool story time
You are invited to join us on Tuesday, April 24, at 10 a.m. for our regular preschool story-time program, led by our Youth Services Department chairwoman, Mrs. Gail Brown.
Mrs. Brown uses theme-based, multi-age level storytimes with an emphasis on early literacy. Books, rhymes, songs, a short video, and an art activity comprise every program.
Children ages 2 to 5, each with a caregiver, are welcome. No registration is needed.
Time for Trivia
Are you a Wise Guy? A Smarty Pants? Go head to head against others and prove it!
Refreshments will be served, prizes will be awarded, and it’s free. So come out at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, to test your knowledge and exercise your mind. All trivia questions are related to the month of April. The contest is open to anyone 16 or older.
English High Tea
Teapots, tea caddy, tea cups and saucers, slop bowls, cream jugs, sugar tongs, napkins, doilies, and many other typical elements are involved in the afternoon tea in England since the 17th Century.
Come to celebrate Mother’s Day at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, and get some insights into the evolution of English tea equipage. You will be treated to the famous clotted cream and scones like the Queen! You have to decide whether to put the cream on first or the jam. Please register.
Starting your outdoor garden
Join gardener Sharon Miller at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, for a talk about starting your outdoor garden. We will discuss preparing the soil, transplanting seedlings, and companion planting. Peruse the newly stocked seed collection and choose some new varieties to plant.
The Voorheesville Seed Library is always looking to add to the collection. Contact us to find out about donating your extra seeds from last year's harvest.
Computer basics
Information Technology Librarian Andrew Ward will be teaching some basic computer courses over the next few months.
If you are a beginner or novice computer user, and would like to improve your skills, please mark your calendar for the following classes: Cloud Storage Basics, May 9 or 15; Creating Documents in Google Drive, May 10; Password Workshop, May 21; Getting Started with Computers, June 5 or 6.
Space will be extremely limited as class size will be about five students. Call or stop by the library to register. If there is a specific course you would be interested in and don’t see it here, please let us know.
