Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, March 21, 2019
Come to Crazy Craft Morning at the Voorheesville Public Library. Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to register for this make-and-take craft program.
On Friday, March 22, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the library craft closet, full of leftover craft projects, will be opened and shared with everyone. There will be a variety of art activities available, so enjoy!
Harry Potter movie experience
You may have seen “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” before, but you’ve never interacted with it like this! At 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22, fans in grade 4 thru adult will receive a goodie-bag, complete with a ticket to the Hogwarts’ Express and everything else you need to become a classmate of Harry’s. Feel free to dress up for the occasion. Please register.
Start researching with Ancestry
Get started researching your family history and genealogy. Join us from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, for a hands-on class using Ancestry Library Edition available at the library. We will go over the interface, explore searching, and take away some helpful tips and tricks.
Participants can bring their own devices, or use one of the library’s laptops. Please register.
Talk & Taste Cookbook Group
Join us on Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. for our newest foodie journey. A limited number of “Sheet Pan Suppers” by Molly Gilbert will be available for $5, or you can check out a library copy.
Read the cookbook, try out the recipes, and (best part!) bring a dish for everyone to sample on discussion night. Experienced foodies and newbies are welcome. Registration required.
Special Collection Tour
From 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 29, we will be looking at and discussing archives held by Voorheesville Public Library with focus on two collections — the Smith Family papers and the Van Rensselaer Indentures.
Voorheesville resident Elizabeth “Lil” Smith kept in personal touch with every service man or woman during World War II. The Van Rensselaer Indentures trace ownership of a tract of land back to Stephen Van Rensselaer in 1791.
Local Village Historian Dennis Sullivan will join us in the discussion. No registration isneeded.
Trustee nominating petitions available
Nominating Petitions are now available for Voorheesville residents interested in running for an open seat on the Library board. Petitions may be obtained at the Voorheesville Library during regular library hours.
Save the date
Remember the Holocaust — An Evening with Teacher and Author Matthew Rozell will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
