Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, March 16, 2022

Elizabeth Macy, and her dog, Lucky Charms, the star of her books, will be at the Voorheesville Public Library at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19.

Women’s History Walk: Join the library as we learn about some local history at the Thacher Visitor Center, on Thacher Park Road,  at 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 19. Nature Center guides will talk about the lives of Emma Treadwell Thacher and Winnifred Goldring.

This program, which will take place if the weather permits, is appropriate for adults and seniors, and individual registration is required

Middle School

Book Club

Students in grades 6 to 8 are invited to join the Middle School Book Club, which is sponsored by the Voorheesville Public Library and the C.A. Bouton Middle/High School Library. Read “Stormbreaker” by Anthony Horowitz, the first book in a series about Alex Rider, the orphan turned teen superspy. We’ll meet at the public library on Friday, Mar. 25 after school, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.,  and tackle an escape room mystery together. Please register and pick up a copy of the book.

Family Yoga

Children ages 3 to 7, w/caregiver are invited to register as a family for this fun yoga class that provides an opportunity for bonding with family. On Saturday, Mar. 26, from 10:15  to 11 a.m., we will explore standing and seated poses, relaxation techniques, and partner poses. Please bring a yoga mat or large towel. 

Teen Time Fridays

Students in grade 6 and up are invited to come to the library after school on Fridays to relax and unwind. Each Teen Time Friday is either a Gamers Edition or Maker Space theme. Check our online calendar for what the theme is this week. Please register, so we know how many snacks will be needed. 

Schoolhouse tour

Take a walk back in time to visit the historic Knox School House #5! This one-room schoolhouse was constructed circa 1898 and restored by the Kiwanis Club of the Helderbergs. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

We will be meeting at the Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center, at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 26. Parking is free. Please register individually online. This event is subject to weather cancellation.

Meet the author

Children ages 4 to 10 and their family are invited to join us at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, as we meet Lucky, the canine star of three books, and his mom, author Elizabeth Macy! The program will include storytime, a craft, Q & A with Elizabeth, and a meet and greet with Lucky. Books will be available for sale and signing for $15. Please register.

Artists and collectors

The library is currently scheduling displays for 2023. If you would like to share your art and/or collection with our community, please call 518-765-2791, and ask for Lynn. We have a large hallway gallery, as well as a large display case, both of which are available for public display.

Afternoon Movies

Thursday movies are back! Check our online calendar, or call 518-765-2791, to find out what this week’s classic movie is. Showtime is 1 p.m., but come a few minutes early to choose snacks and seats.
