Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, March 15, 2023

Maple Sugaring: Students in kindergarten through fourth grade are invited to join local author and science educator Anita Sanchez at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 17, as she takes us on an exploration of how trees work and why sugar is so important. Best of all, we’ll get a taste of real maple syrup! Registration is required.

Mush!

What does it take to care for a team of Alaskan huskies? Musher, Karen Land, will answer these questions and more when she and Noggin, the Alaskan husky, visit the library from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 24.

Ms. Land is a writer, public speaker, and three-time participant in the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race as well as many other sprint and endurance races around the country. Since 2000, she has given over a thousand presentations and has traveled to nearly every state with her Iditarod dog sled, mushing gear, Arctic clothing, and beloved dogs. For ages 3 to adult. Please register.

Musical

Instrument Collection

Do you have a gently-used musical instrument that you no longer use? Maybe it’s time to think about donating it to a worthy cause. Starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, in the library community room, Albany Vanguard will be collecting musical instruments in good condition. These instruments will be made available to Capital Region music-program students that do not have the ability to purchase their own instruments. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Preschool story time

How can we make someone  feel welcome? Children ages 2-5 w/caregiver are invited to join us at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, as we highlight some of the books from “The Welcoming Library” collection. The collection helps raise awareness and build sensitivity for all ages through children’s literature. Every preschool storytime includes an interactive, theme-based, multi-age storytime with an emphasis on early literacy that will include an art activity that can be completed at the library or at home. No registration needed.

March artist

Our gallery artist for the month of March is Gwen Libby. Gwen is a 92 year old self-taught watercolorist. Her paintings are on exhibit until the end of March, so please be sure to stop in to enjoy her wonderful display.
