Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, February 22, 2018
Children in grades 3 to 7 are invited to register at the Voorheesville Public Library for our Friday, Feb. 23, “build anything” session. With our Lego bricks, iPads, and laptops with Minecraft or SimCity programs, you can create anything that you can imagine, including stop-motion movies.
The program runs from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Teen Read-In
Teens in grades 6 and up are invited for a read-in from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23. Bring a comfy sleeping bag or blanket and a book or two from your to-be-read pile and meet up with other bookworms.
Family literacy
Barbara Lukas from WMHT will offer a fun and educational family literacy program for children ages 4 to 8 and their families on Saturday, Feb. 24. The group will read and discuss “The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash” by Trinka Hakes Noble.
Each child will make a snake and get a copy of the book to take home. The program will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Magic of the Slow Cooker
Did you know your slow cooker can be used to make bread?
Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, as we learn about the benefits of slow-cooking, safe usage, selection, and cleaning. We will share and sample recipes and learn how to adjust recipes for use in a slow cooker.
Teen Time
Take the bus to the library after school on Fridays, March 2, 16, and 23, to unwind, play games, or make something. Use SimCity, Scratch, the Leap Motion, 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops.
Teach yourself Tinkercad or Sculptris, invent something with the littleBits electronics kits, or program the Ozobots. We have Sticker Circuits, paper, fabric, and craft supplies available if you want to get creative. Open to students in grade 6 and up. Space on bus route is limited, please register.
Defensive driving
There is a $20 fee for members of the American Association of Retired Persons (card must be shown) and $25 for non-members for this six-hour defensive-driving course. Payment is due at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, when class begins.
Everyone must bring their driver license. There will be a 30-minute, bring-your-own lunch break. The snow date is March 10. Please register early.
Artist reception
The library’s March artist, Betsy Soares, invites you to a reception showcasing her work. Join Betsy from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, to meet the artist, nibble some refreshments, and talk to other fellow art lovers.
Trustees meet
The next meeting of the library’s board of trustees will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26. The public is always welcome.
