Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, February 17, 2017

We’re holding a special storytime Pajama Twilight Tales for our youngest readers, ages 18 months to 5 years, to celebrate your family’s progress toward reading 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. On Friday, Feb. 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., put on your pajamas and join us at the library. Bring along your favorite bedtime friend (stuffed animal or doll) and join us for snuggle time stories, quiet songs, a bedtime snack, and sleepy time fun. The library will be closed except for the children and their families.

Nimblefingers open house

February is Nimblefingers month at the library. Whether you do crafts yourself or just have an appreciation for textile arts, come for an afternoon of fun and friendship on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. Even if you can’t come for the afternoon, be sure to drop in at some point during February to stroll through the gallery and community room to enjoy the wonderful crafts these ladies have displayed for your pleasure. No need to register.

Coding with LEGO

You can learn how to “program” your minifig to navigate a LEGO maze using paper codes to give instructions. Caregivers of students in kindergarten through grade two will serve as assistant programmers on Monday, Feb. 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

STEAM

Students in grades three through six are invited to try out the Library’s new STEAM Tools on Monday, Feb. 20 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Program the Ozobots using marker codes or Ozoblockly. Use the littleBits electronic sets to build an invention with your friends. See the Cubify 3D printer in action.

Family storytime

Who doesn’t like a nice stack of steaming, buttery, syrupy pancakes on a cold winter morning? Children ages 3 thru grade two, and their families are invited to join the fun on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m., as we read pancake stories, participate in pancake themed activities, and, of course, eat pancakes.

Kids’ movie matinee

Join us on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m. for a delightful tale about the adventures of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be a dragon. Refreshments will be served. This movie is rated PG, and is 103 minutes long. No need to register.

Starting seedlings indoors

It's almost time to start your garden seedlings indoors. Join local gardener Sharon Miller at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to discuss when to start different kinds of vegetable seeds indoors. Learn about indoor lighting and heating equipment that you can use to start your garden. Choose seeds from the library's seed collection and start planting now. No need to register.

Holiday hours

In observance of President’s Day, the Voorheesville Public Library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20.
