Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, February 7, 2019
Dennis Sullivan will be our host for the last film in the Second Annual Winter Film Festival series. From director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, join us at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 for discussion and insights on this award-winning film.
Light refreshments will be served. Check the library calendar or call for the film’s title. No registration needed.
Teen Time
Take the bus to the library after school on Friday, Feb. 8, to unwind, play games, or make something. Use SimCity, Scratch, the Leap Motion, or Minecraft on our laptops. Teach yourself Tinkercad or Sculptris, invent something with the littleBits electronics kits, or program the Ozobots.
We have Sticker Circuits, paper, fabric and craft supplies available if you want to get creative. Open to students in grade 6 and up. Space on the bus route is limited, please register.
Nimblefingers Open House
Join the Nimblefingers at their Open House at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, for an afternoon of demonstrations, refreshments, and friendship. View antique quilts during a bed-turning and vote for your favorite entry in the design challenge.
Throughout the month, visitors to the library can enjoy the Nimblefingers exhibit of distinctive handcrafts and quilts in our Community Room. Since programs are also held in the Community Room, check the calendar to plan your visit.
Reading Together
Parents or caregivers and their emergent or independent readers are invited to explore the benefits of a shared “reading together” experience. Join us from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, as we discuss George Crum and the Saratoga Chip.
There will be a potato chip-tasting too! For children in grades 1 to 3 with a caregiver. Please register and pick up a copy of the book.
Second Sunday Film
Drop in at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10 for a fun film and light refreshments. “Five years after the events of Mamma Mia!, Sophie prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother's past,” says the Internet Movie Database.
Check the library calendar or call for film title. The film runs for one hour and 54 minutes. The film is rated PG-13.
Using Microsoft Word
In this class we will walk through formatting a document in Microsoft Word on the character, paragraph, and page level. We’ll also learn how to structure the document to make organization and presentation simple.
This class assumes general computer use knowledge. Participants can bring their own devices, or use one of the Library’s laptops. Please register for one session, either 10:30 a.m. or 6 p.m., both held on Monday, Feb. 11.
Registering for programs helps us to determine supply needs. Unless otherwise indicated, registration is requested for all programs. You may register in person, by phone at 518-765-2791 or using our online calendar at http://voorheesvillelibrary.org/calendar.asp.
