Watch “The Danger of a Single Story” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (the link is available on our event calendar) and come ready to have brave conversations and grow your understanding. Please register online in advance to receive the link.
Snowshoeing
for adults
There are a few spots left for this snowshoe nature walk at the Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12. Snowshoes will be provided, and the walk will be an easy to moderate exercise. Register online or call the library to reserve your spot.
Friday Teen Time
Students in grades 6 and older are encouraged to come to the library for an hour after school on two Fridays in February. February 11 is Maker Space, which means you can go high or low tech. Craft supplies, littleBits, sewing projects, whatever you’re interested in doing, we have it. February 18 is Gamers Edition.
You can play board games, Switch games, or Magic the Gathering. We’ll help you build a winning deck. Even if you just want to relax, kick back and unwind, there is no better place than the library. Please register
Schoolhouse tour
Attendees will take a walk back in time to visit the historic Knox School House 5. Please register to visit this one room schoolhouse, constructed in 1898, and restored by the Helderberg Kiwanis Club. It is the only building in Knox currently in the National Register of Historic Places. We will be meeting at the Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19.
Bricks, Bits, and Bots
Children in grades K-5 are invited to join us on Monday, February 21, to celebrate Engineers Week! You will use the library LEGO® bricks for building, littleBits for inventing, and Ozobots to learn easy coding. Please register for either the morning 10:30 a.m. to noon, or the afternoon 2 to 3:30 p.m. session.
Operation Donate
The library will be accepting donations of personal care items, beginning Feb. 1 and running through the end of the month. Some examples of needed items are: shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, disposable razors, body/face/hand lotions, toothpaste, and deodorant. Donations can be any size, from personal on up. All donations will benefit the Sgt. Henry Johnson Veterans House in Albany. A donation box can be found on the display table.
Two For Tuesday
Tuesday, Feb. 22, is a special storytime. Everything we read, or sing about, or create, will contain the number 2! Children ages 2 to second grade with a caregiver will enjoy an interactive storytime that will include an art activity that can be completed at the library or at home. Weather permitting, the program runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Please register once per family.
Curbside pickup is available during all open library hours.
Masks are required of all visitors over the age of two, regardless of vaccination status.
