Voorheesville Library Notes for Sunday, February 5, 2017

Calling all pirates and princesses! Come celebrate “Take Your Child to the Library Day” on Saturday, Feb. 4. Our special dress-up storytime event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and is especially for children ages 3 to 7, with families. After reading some great pirate and princess themed books, we will have “tea” and snacks fit for royalty and buccaneers alike. Don’t leave without making your pirate hat or fairy wand or you might be asked to walk the plank or face a fiery dragon! Registration is requested.

Author visit and book discussion

The library is very excited to welcome author Eric Luper, who will visit us on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Eric will chat with participants about his book “Key Hunters; The Mysterious Moonstone.” Students in grades two to five should register early and pick up a copy of the book from the library reference desk.

Parenting styles and discipline tools

As a parent/caregiver of a preschooler, do you ever wonder how your parenting style might affect you and your child? On Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m., Cornell Cooperative Extension will offer an educational program to help parents/caregivers understand four different parenting styles and how their particular parenting behavior affects their children. Parents/caregivers will also learn several discipline techniques to use with their children, including understanding the difference between punishment and discipline, the myths of spanking, and getting children to listen.

On-site childcare in the children’s area of the library will be available for children ages 18 months to 5 years (register early – maximum number of registrants will be no more than 12). If you need childcare, please go to www.voorheesvillelibrary.org/calendar and use the on-site childcare registration for the appropriate date, or just call the library at 765-2791.

Beading workshop

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., adults and teens ages 14 and up are invited to stop by the library to make simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The library provides tools and offer a variety of beads to choose from, or you are welcome to bring your own supplies and projects along. There will be a small materials fee, depending on which project you choose to make.

Show Boat screening

This is a screening of “Live From Lincoln Center: New York Philharmonic: Kern & Hammerstein’s Show Boat in Concert” that was broadcast on Oct. 16, 2015.
