Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, January 29, 2016

February is Nimblefingers month at the Voorheesville Public Library. Whether you do crafts yourself or just have an appreciation for textile arts, join in on Feb. 9, for demonstrations, refreshments and friendship. Come for an afternoon of fun and friendship, from 1 to 3 p.m. Even if you can’t come for the afternoon, be sure to drop in at some point during February to stroll through the gallery and community room to enjoy the wonderful crafts these ladies have displayed for your pleasure. Buy a ticket for the quilt drawing and vote for your favorite design in the table-runner challenge.

Shake, shimmy and dance

We will read a selection of rhythmic books and make our own shakers to use in our dancing celebration. Come show us your best moves! For children ages 2 to 6 and families. Please register online.

Bring your favorite soup, soup-friendly side, or dessert to share on Monday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m., and  include a recipe card to display. For inspiration explore our library foodies page on Pinterest or check out one of the library’s cookbooks. Please register online and let us know what kind of dish you are bringing. Take home containers welcome.

Paper crafternoon

On Saturday, Feb. 13,  from 2 to 4 p.m., come share your obsession with crafting such as collage, artist trading cards, Zentangles, greeting cards (like Valentines), and coloring books. The creative possibilities of paper are limitless.  Teach us something or learn something new yourself. Please register online.

Food pantry donations

Donating year-round to the food pantry is a great way to give locally. The volunteers at the New Scotland food pantry will make sure your donation gets to the people who need it the most.  Canned or dry food, paper products and basic personal items are always appreciated. The library is a convenient drop spot for the NS food pantry and, for the month of January, will be giving away a new Snoopy library card for every two cans of food dropped in the pantry baskets, located next to the computer stations.

 Junior maker event

Students in kindergarten throug two are invited to come in on Monday, February 15 at 10:30 a.m. to make, tinker, build and explore at the library.  Parents and caregivers will join in this creative journey meant to foster creativity and encourage storytelling.  Grades K to 2, please register online.
