Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, January 18, 2018

As part of Woody Allen Movie Month at the Voorheesville Public Library, Dennis Sullivan will be hosting Woody Allen’s “Crimes and Misdemeanors” on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The movie will begin at 6:30 p.m., with time for discussion after the film.

No registration is needed and light refreshments will be served.

Teen Time

Take the bus to the library after school on Friday, Jan. 19 to unwind, play geeky games, or make something. Use SimCity, Scratch, the Leap Motion, 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops. Teach yourself Tinkercad or Sculptris, invent something with the littleBits electronics kits, or program the Ozobots.

We have Sticker Circuits, paper, fabric and craft supplies available if you want to get creative. Open to students in grade 6 and up. Space on bus route 3 is limited, please register. Philosophers 101

The Philosophers group will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, this month. People with opinions are welcome to join the monthly group.

The group is always seeking new members! It’s very casual with no homework. Drop-ins are welcome!

Family Story Time and Yoga

Join us from 10:30 to 11:45.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 for our very first Yoga themed storytime. Miss Amy will be introducing the concept of yoga through very simple poses, intertwined with some of our favorite stories.

We will experience how to breathe deeply and relax our bodies as well as play some yoga games. For ages to 7 with caregiver. Space is extremely limited, so please register early.

Book talk

If you are interested in joining a book discussion group, the library has many choices available. Our fiction book discussion meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.. The next meeting is Feb. 7 and the book is “Room” by Emma Donoghue. The same fiction title will be discussed at our afternoon book group, Books and Beyond, the third Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m.

Our Non-fiction book discussion meets the second Monday of every other month at 7 p.m. The next meeting is March 12, and the book is “Isaac’s Storm” by Erik Larson. We also host several teen, tween and children’s book groups.

Museum-pass program

When you are looking for something to do over the winter break or just to fill a weekend day, please remember the Library Museum Pass Program. We have free passes for a variety of museums, most within a one-hour drive of Voorheesville.

The majority of our passes will cover the cost of two adults and two children. Be sure to check with the museum for specific hours and days of operation.
