Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, January 11, 2018

Learn easy beading techniques at the Voorheesville Public Library for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. You may arrive at any time after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan.11.

The workshop is for adults and teens ages 14 and up. Please register, and there will be a small materials fee depending on the project you choose.

Woody Allen Movie Month

Dennis Sullivan will be hosting some of Woody Allen’s best films this month.

January 17 will show “Broadway Danny Rose,”: and on Wednesday, Jan. 24, the movie will be “Crimes and Misdemeanors.” All movies will begin at 6:30 p.m., with time for discussion after the film.

Teen Time

Take the bus to the library after school on Friday, Jan. 12, to unwind, play games, or make something. Use SimCity, Scratch, the Leap Motion, 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops.

Teach yourself Tinkercad or Sculptris, invent something with the littleBits electronics kits, or program the Ozobots.  We have Sticker Circuits, paper, fabric and craft supplies available if you want to get creative.

Teen Time is open to students in grade 6 and up, please register. Check out the Library Events Calendar at www.voorheesvillelibrary.org for other Friday Teen Time dates in January and February.

Second Sunday Films

This month’s feature film will be “Hidden Figures.” Join us at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14 for the story inspired by actual events of a team of female mathematicians whose expertise enabled the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to reach never before dreamed of heights. Light refreshments will be served.

First Lego Expo

On Monday, Jan. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m., you are invited to an Expo of the Voorheesville teams’ entries in this season’s First Lego League building challenges. The FLL Junior teams will take you on an Aqua Adventure, using bricks and motorized elements to show the wonders of water.

The FLL team will show off its Hydro Dynamics display. Ask the builders questions and check out the movements of their Lego programming.

As the judges confer, our free-build time will start. At 1:45 p.m. everyone is invited to take the library’s challenge to build a boat that floats — we’ll test it out in our water table! Enjoy other activities too.  No registration needed.

Adult Coloring-Book Club

Each month, we have different coloring sheets with multiple pages to choose from, as well as a large selection of colored pencils, markers, and crayons are provided. The library offers a welcoming environment with soothing music to help you relax and enjoy some me time.

The program runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Please register.

Holiday hours

In observance of Martin Luther King Day, the library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16.
