Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, January 9, 2014

You still have time to return all of your overdue Voorheesville Public Library items and get away fine-free. Monday, Jan. 13, is the deadline, so don’t miss your chance to save a few bucks. Items from other libraries are not included.

Circle Time

Miss Amy’s Circle Time is a special program for preschool children aged three to four years old offered on the second Monday of every month. Join Miss Amy for a structured, themed story time that will include an introduction to the calendar and weather observation as well as songs, fingerplays, stories and a follow-up craft. Our next Circle Time will be Jan. 13, at 10:15 a.m.

Bookworm changes

After more than 30 years, the library’s newsletter The Bookworm is changing. In trying to do our small part in maintaining a clean, sustainable community, The Bookworm  will no longer be automatically mailed to every resident of the Voorheesville Central School District. During 2014, the library will transition from snail mail to electronic distribution. There will still be paper copies available for mailing, but you’ll need to let us know if you want one. The first two issues, January/February/March and April/May, will be mailed to every resident. But, beginning in June, the easiest way to find a newsletter will be online. For an online version, the library website, www.voorheesvillelibrary.org, will have The Bookworm link. To receive the newsletter by e-mail, or to continue to receive a paper copy, go to the library updates page and sign up. If you don’t have internet access, just give us a call at 765-2791, ask for Lynn and we will put you on the mailing list.

Kid’s book discussion

On Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m, all students in grades two and three are invited to join us as we discuss Smasher  by Dick King-Smith. Smasher is a dog who’s always getting into trouble. Can farmer Buzzard find a way to save him or is Smasher in the doghouse for good? Register and pick up a copy of the book at the library.

Winter reading club

Don’t forget, the library is hosting an online winter reading club, now through March 31. Post your comments on the library’s Winter Reading Club webpage or drop off a handwritten review at the library, and you’ll be entered to win a prize. Three drawings will be held each month, so be sure you’re entered. Attending a Winter Reading Club drawing program will also make you eligible for special prizes. All prizes have been graciously donated by the Friends of the Library.

Thursday afternoon movies

Bored? Tired of the same old, same old? Why not stop by the library on Thursday afternoon and watch a classic movie on the big screen? They really don’t make movie stars like these anymore! Showtime is 1:30 p.m. sharp.
