Schoharie Library Notes for Thursday, October 4, 2018

Fall themes will haunt the story times with Vanessa Repicky at the Schoharie Library on Fridays at 10 a.m.; Oct. 5, Monsters; Oct. 12, Fall Leaves; Oct. 19, Pumpkins; and Oct. 26, Halloween.

All ages are welcome to join us for stories, music, crafts, and games. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Crafts

Knit, Crochet & Needlework Club will meet on  Tuesdays, Oct. 9 and 23, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Bring a project, start something new, or learn to knit/crochet with this friendly group. Knitting needles, crochet hooks, and yarn are available at the library. The club meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. All ages and abilities are welcome.

Optical Illusions

MiSci – Optical Illusions: Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 3:30 p.m. Do you see what you think you see? Trick your eyes, trick your brain!

Real News Matters

On Thursday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. join us for Real News Matters. Now, more than ever, where we get our news from and understanding how it works is essential. What is local news and why does it matter? How do you evaluate what you’re reading - not only in the paper, but on social media? How can you tell what’s legitimate news? How do your support your local news and what does it need from you? Learn about all this and more with Patsy Nicosia, Editor of the Times Journal.

Making apple cider

Let’s Make Apple Cider on Monday, Oct. 15, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Help make apple cider using an old-fashioned, hand cranked cider press and delicious local apples! Then sample the cider along with a yummy cider donut.

Writing Club

The Writing Club meets Mondays, 15 and 29, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. If you like to write, and you want to share & discuss writing with others, this group is for you!

Poetry

It Takes a Village to Write a Poem on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Everybody writes a verse, then we put it all together! How far can we stretch it? Bring a friend and join this fun, creative project. Facilitated by James P. Wagner, author of Japanese Poetry Forms, founder of Local Gems Press. All ages are welcome.

Emergency help

Introduction to CPR, AED, and Narcan with Aidan O’Connor: Monday, Oct. 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mr. O’Connor, a paramedic and New York State Assembly candidate, will discuss the basics of these life-saving techniques, then take time to answer questions and listen to concerns.

Minecraft Club

On Monday, Oct. 22, from  6:30 to 7:30 p.m. join us to build worlds and explore with this popular computer game! Please bring your own I-Pad, tablet, laptop, or other gaming device. The club meets on second and fourth Mondays; all ages are welcome.

Fun night

The library will have Music & Poetry Night on Thursday, Oct. 25, ffrom 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sing, play an instrument, read a poem, join the sing-along, or just listen. All ages are welcome.

Halloween

Our Halloween party and costume parade is is  Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 .a m. to 12:30 p.m. Crafts, activities, refreshments. Costume parades at 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

Library closed

The Schoharie Library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8 in observance of Columbus Day.
