Schoharie Library Notes for Wednesday, March 30, 2022
Author Jana Laiz will present a children’s program, “How a Special Librarian turned a Writer into a Reader” at the Schoharie Library on Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m. Jana talks about how, as a child, she loved to write but was reluctant to pick up a book until a librarian at her community library handed her a book that finally got her attention.
“You can’t be a writer without first being a reader,” she says, speaking to how being widely read helps a writer to craft their stories. Laiz, who will be making the journey to our library from the Berkshires, will read from her new book “Billy Budd in the Breadbox,” about Herman Melville and his granddaughter Eleanor. She will share her other titles, both for adults and children, that are part of the library’s collection.
The Schoharie Library’s Writing Club will also host writer Laiz at a special virtual gathering at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 4. Her program “I’ve Got to Write!” will highlight her experiences as a writer and the themes of common good and humanity that have inspired many of her books.
Local writers are welcome to attend this engaging conversation on the writing process and inspire one another! This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. To register, go to https://bit.ly/AuthorJanaLaiz or call the library at 518-295-7127.
