Middleburgh Library Notes for Thursday, December 5, 2013

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 10:45 a.m., join us at the Middleburgh Library for drop-in story time. Get ready to move in this interactive story time designed especially for children up to age 5 and their caregivers. We'll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required.

Doodle Bugs

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m., join us for a fun filled time creating.  We start with a story and create an art project related to that month's theme.  Appropriate for preschoolers and their caregivers.  Registration is required. 

Wednesday matinee

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. come to the library for a showing of  Mon Oncle Antoine. This movie is not rated. The movie is set in rural Quebec at Christmas time, and follows the coming of age of a young boy and the life of his family which owns the town's general store and undertaking business.

Knitting Circle

On Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. at the library the ladies (men are welcome, but we have not seen any yet!) of the Knitting Circle knit and crochet, embroider and quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here, share your own special talents with others, or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime. No registration is required.

Spanish classes

On Friday, Dec. 6, Theresa Heary-Selah, of Cotton Hill Homeschool Workshops, will offer an introductory mini Spanish course using songs, stories, movement and activities.  She will be offering: 

— On Dec. 6, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., for homeschooled children over 5 years old and their grownups. These children would be welcome to stay and help with the younger ones at 11 a.m.
— Also on Dec. 6, from 11 to11:45 a.m., a class for preschool children and their grownups.

Then on Friday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m., Selah, will offer an introductory mini Spanish course using songs, stories, movement and activities.

Community event

On Friday, Dec. 13, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., come and have great fun and enjoy the wonderful community spirit at the Miracle on Main Street.The library will offer the following:

—5:30 p.m., the Sarah Clermont's Dancers;
— 5:45 p.m., bell ringers;
— 6:30p.m., Depot Lane Singers;
— 7 p.m., stories told by Jim Spencer; and
— 7:30 p.m., TLC Country Cloggers.

Movie

On Friday, Dec. 13 at 8:30 p.m., the library will have a showing of The Nightmare Before Christmas rated PG. This is the story of the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, who  is bored with doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day he stumbles into Christmas Town, and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween Town to help him put on Christmas instead of Halloween — but alas, they can't get it quite right.  This movie is for kids 10 and up.  No registration is required and the popcorn is free.

Victorian tea

On Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m., join us for tea, hot cocoa and coffee along with cookies, scones and a variety of desserts at the Best House Victorian Tea. Linda Connors will be at the keyboard and James Spencer will be reading holiday favorites, plus other special guests and performances. Victorian clothing is encouraged. There is a donation of $5 for this event.

Book discussion

On Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m., we will discuss Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Copies of the book may be picked up at the circulation desk.   No registration is required.

Dinner and a movie

On Friday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m. join us for a showing of the Man of Steel rated PG 13.

We will also enjoy a dinner of pizza and salad.  The library will provide the dinner and drinks and you bring a dessert to share.  Registration is required. 

Please note this film is rated PG 13 and is not suitable for young children.
