Middleburgh Library Notes for Thursday, October 11, 2018

The Middleburgh Library will hold a drop-in story time on Oct. 16 at 10:45 a.m.

Get ready to move in this interactive story time designed especially for children up to age 5 and their caregivers. We'll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration required.

Mahjong Mania

On Oct. 16 at  1 p.m., a spirited group of people will get together in the Middleburgh Library Community Room to play Mahjong. Don't know how to play? No problem! They will teach you how. No registration is required.

CPR

On Oct. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. the library will have CPR Training . Learn CPR and the AED with Aiden O'Connor Jr. a paramedic.

Insight Meditation

On Oct. 16  at 5:15 p.m. join us for Insight Meditation. What do you want most deeply? Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this. Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in daydreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts. Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving-kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced mediators', teens to seniors so give it a try. No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome.

Book discussion

On Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. join us to discuss "The Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams.  The Glass Menagerie is a memory play, and its action is drawn from the memories of the narrator, Tom Wingfield. Tom is a character in the play, which is set in St. Louis in 1937. He is an aspiring poet who toils in a shoe warehouse to support his mother, Amanda, and sister, Laura.

This program series is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Library System and participating member libraries.

Storytime

On Oct 17, at 11 a.m. join us for Storytime with Miss Doreen. This program is  every other Wednesday for some fun and games. There will be a theme every program.

Movie

On Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. Wednesday Matinee is back.  "Book Club" rated PG-13 is the story of longtime friends and book club members "Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen" have their lives upended when they aim to spice up their mundane routines by reading the provocative bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey. With newfound confidence, they each begin to come alive as exciting romances are ignited and old flames are rekindled. Through it all, the ladies inspire one other to make this next stage of their lives the best and steamiest thus far.  No registration required. Free popcorn!

HEGS  

On Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. join us for Home Educators of Schoharie County. HEGS is a group of homeschooling families with a wide variety of backgrounds, approaches to education, and religious affiliations. We exist to provide secular support for homeschooling families, offer information about homeschooling, and to allow for the sharing of educational opportunities. We hope to increase public awareness, acceptance, and support of home education in Schoharie County.  Please check out our facebook page. Or contact Rebecca at for more information. Cooking

Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. join us for Cooking by the Vegan Book — "Chloe Flavor.”  We pick the cookbook, you pick and make the recipe! This month's book is "Vegan Comfort Classics" by food blogger Lauren Toyota.

How the cookbook club works; Every month, a cookbook will be selected and will be at the circulation desk, for you to look at and we will print up the recipe of your choice. Sign up online, call or at the circulation desk, let us know what you're cooking so we don't have duplicates.  Registration is required.
