Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, September 4, 2019

An Intro to Flower Arranging course will be held at the Middleburgh Library on Mondays from Sept. 9 to  Oct. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. 

For the first four classes, we will be using inexpensive artificial flowers from a dollar store or any that you may have on hand. Please bring the following items to the first class: an assortment of small, medium, and large “silk” flowers, wire snips, masking tape, and a container.

For the remaining classes, we will work with fresh flowers. We will discuss the materials needed at the first class.

A handout of basic principles and a breakdown of what principle we will be using in each class will be provided. There is no material fee. Registration is required.

Board meets

On Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. the Board of Trustees  will meet . The public is welcome.

Storytime

On Sept. 10 at 10:45 a.m. join us for Drop-in Storytime. This fun and interactive program is meant for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers, although older siblings are always welcome! We read books, sing songs, play games, dance and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required! 

Then on Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. come enjoy Storytime with Miss Doreen "A Nursery Rhyme Welcome" -  Join Miss Doreen for this fun filled storytime for kids 2-5 and their caregivers. No registration required.   

Mahjong Mania 

On Sept. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons at 1 p.m. a spirited group of people get together in the Community Room to play Mahjong. Don't know how to play? No problem! They will teach you how. No registration is required.  

Insight Meditation 

On Sept. 10 at 5:15 p.m. join us for Insight Meditation. What do you want most deeply? Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this. Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in day-dreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts. Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving-kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced mediators', teens to seniors. Give it a try.  No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome.  

Book discussion

On Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. come discuss "Empty Seats" by Wanda Adams Fischer. This book discussion will be with the author Wanda Adams Fisher.  What Little Leaguer doesn't dream of taking to the mound and striking out one of his heroes? This novel follows three such dreamers who were drafted to play minor league ball, thinking it would be an easy ride to playing in the big time.
