Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, August 7, 2019
On Aug. 12, from 1:30 to 5 p.m., a spirited group of people will get together in the Community Room at the Middleburgh Library to play Mahjong.
Don’t know how to play? No problem! They will teach you how. No registration is required.
Board meets
On Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. the Board of Trustees will meet. The public is welcome.
Insight Meditation
On Aug. 13 at 5:15 p.m. come to the library for Insight Meditation. What do you want most deeply? Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this. Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in day-dreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts. Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving-kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced mediators', teens to seniors. give it a try. No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome.
Winnie the Pooh Party
On Aug. 13 at 10:45 a.m. a fun way to end our Summer Reading adventure! We’ll have craft stations, games, treats & lots of fun. This program is part of our A Universe of Stories Summer Reading Program and is for kids going into PreKindergarten and grade 1.
Galaxy Stones
On Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. create beautiful painted stones that look like stars in the night sky using paint pens and river rocks. Registration is required. This program is for kids going into grades 2 to 5.
All About Honeybees
On Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. learn what bees are, identify their body parts, and discuss their senses of smell, how they find nectar and turn it into honey, and what colors they can see. See actual beekeeping and honey-extraction equipment, which kids can handle during and after the program, as well as beeswax candles and honey sticks for you to try. Finally, kids will participate in a “bee dance” to find honey, and look at live bees in a glass terrarium. This program is for kids going into kindergarten on up. Registration is required.
Collections Museum
On Aug. 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Collections Museum — Family and friends this museum is for you! Do you collect things? Bottle caps, sticks, rocks, buttons, matchbox cars or maybe something totally different. Come display your collection and answer questions other people may have. We will provide tables and chairs. Space is limited. This program is for children and families. Registration is required.
Jedi Academy
On Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. May the Force Be with You - Jedi Academy. Young Jedi's will have a chance to make their own lightsabers, play games, go on a scavenger hunt and compete in Star Wars Trivia. Of course, Star Wars themed snacks will be consumed. This program is for kids going into second through fifth grade. Registration is required.
Teen Iron Chef
On Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. do you have what it takes to become the next Iron Chef? Come show off your culinary skills. We will break off into teams of two, the mystery box item will be revealed, there will be 3 categories which will be judged by a serious panel of judges. Trivia and a few surprises will be thrown into the mix!
This program is for teens. Registration is required!
