Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, July 27, 2022

On July 31 at 4 p.m., David Roth will perform as part of the Middleburgh Library’s Not so Quiet concert Series.

Roth strikes many chords, hearts, and minds with his unique songs, offbeat observations, moving stories, sense of the hilarious, and powerful singing and subject matter.

As singer, songwriter, recording artist, keynote speaker, workshop leader, and instructor, he has earned top honors at premier songwriter competitions — in Kerrville, Texas and Falcon Ridge, New York — and taken his music, experience, and expertise to a wide variety of venues in this and other countries full-time for three decades.

Summer Reading

On Aug. 1 at 1:30 p.m. enjoy the Summer Reading - Sea, Sand, and Surf and explore the science of the sea and learn about what sand is made from, how shells are used by animals for protection, and what animals live in the ocean. Then, make your own ocean in a bottle to take home!  Registration is required.  For Kids going into Pre-K through K.  This program is part of our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program.

Then at 3 p.m. on Aug. 1 children in the first through fifth grade program are part of our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program.

On Aug. 2 at 10:45 a.m. join the Summer Reading Drop-in-Storytime with Miss Terry for a fun, interactive, literacy based storytime every Tuesday morning. We'll read books, sing songs, dance, play games and watch a short film centered around our weekly theme. No registration required.  For parents and caregivers and little one ages 0 to 5 although older siblings are more than welcome to attend.

Also on Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. come to the library for the Summer Reading Family Matinee "Dolphin Tale" (PG) . When it's hot outside, come in and watch a fun afternoon film with your family! Inspired by the amazing true story of a brave dolphin and the compassionate strangers who banded together to save her life. Swimming free, a young dolphin is caught in a crab trap, severely damaging her tail. She is rescued and transported to the Clearwater Marine Hospital, where she is named Winter. But her fight for survival has just begun. Without a tail, Winter's prognosis is dire.  Free popcorn!  No registration required. This program is part of our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program.

Mahjong 

On Aug. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. Mahjong is back at the Middleburgh Library.  Come and join the group. If you don't know how to play and want to learn, the group will help you.

More Summer Reading

On Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. Summer Reading - Water Science - Join us for a fun morning of discovery as we explore water science with books and activities. Registration is required. For preschoolers ages 4-6 and their caregivers. This program is part of our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program.

Also on Aug. 3 at 5:30 p.m.  Summer Reading - Teens Murder On The Titanic.  Come on board the Titanic as we sail off onto new adventures. There will be drinks, dinner, and a murder...are you the murderer, a suspect, or the victim? Dress up or come as yourself! Join Waiting List. Registration is required. For kids ages 12 through twelfth  grade. This program is part of our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program

Then on Aug. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. Summer Reading - Teen Castaways - Ride The Waves - Come hang out in the Teen Room! Life can be overwhelming and stressful, learn some tips about how to deal with stress. We'll be making stress balls, writing or drawing in your new notebooks, and eating chocolate. Registration is required. For kids ages 12 through 12th grade. This program is part of our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program.

Teen Dinner & A Movie

On Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m. come enjoy Summer Reading - Teen Dinner & A Movie - showing of ” Fantastic Beasts, the Secrets of Dumbledore”(PG-13).

    Join us for a fun evening of food and friends!  The library will provide pizza and drinks and you bring a dessert or snack to share while we watch our film.  Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?  Registration is required and space is limited.
