Middleburgh Library Notes for Friday, July 17, 2015
On Friday, July 17, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. the Middleburgh Library will offer Introduction to Zazen Meditation. Jack King will be leading us in Zazen practice and will continue the two Fridays after on July 24 and 31. The back doors will be opened at 5 p.m. This will be a trial period to test the water for local interest. Besides sitting in meditation, Jack will include walking meditation and group discussion. There is no fee; however a $2.50 donation is always appreciated for our local library. Registration is suggested.
Book club
On Monday, July 20, at 2 p.m., join us for Unmask! Graphic Novel Book Club. Get your geek on with fellow comic book fans and we explore new and different super hero graphic novels. These are not your grandma's super heroes....! This program is part of our Unmask! Summer Reading Program and is appropriate for kids going into grade six and up. Registration is required.
Beaded jewelry
On Monday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m., join us for an evening of creativity as you learn how to make your own jewelry by stringing beads. Create a necklace, earrings, bracelet or all three. No experience necessary, and all materials will be provided. This program is part of our Unmask! Teen Summer Reading Program and is appropriate for kids going into grade six and up. Registration is required.
Story time
On Tuesday, July 21, at 10:45 a.m., the library hasEvery Hero Has a Story - Drop-in Story time. Get ready to move in this interactive story time especially for children up to age five and their caregivers. We’ll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required.
Makey Makey
On Tuesday, July 21, at 1 p.m., join us for Unmask! – Makey, Makey. Unmask your inner tech geek and learn how to turn everyday objects like bananas and play dough into keyboards for a computer. This program is facilitated by educators from the Scotia/Glenville Traveling Museum and is part of our Unmask! Summer Reading Program for teens and is appropriate for kids going into grades six and up. Registration is required.
Mahjong Mania
On Tuesday, July 21, at 1 p.m., at the library, adults are invited to come learn the game of Mahjong. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun. No registration is required.
Heroic Hijinks
On Wednesday, July 22, at 11 a.m., join us for Every Hero Has a Story: Heroic Hijinks! In this fun music and movement program preschoolers and their siblings will be vanquishing villains, flying around a super-sized parachute, and leaping over buildings in a single bound. We'll snack on Kryptonite Krunch and for extra fun dress in our favorite super hero costumes. This program is part of our Every Hero Has a Story Summer Reading Program and is appropriate for preschoolers and their caregivers (siblings are welcome to join in!). Registration is required.
Training camp
On July 23, at 2 p.m., Every Hero Has a Story: Super Hero Training Camp appropriate for kids going into grades three through five. Registration is required.
Knitting Circle
On Thursday, July 23, at 7 p.m., the friendly ladies knit and crochet, embroider and quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here, share your own special talents with others or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime. No registration is required.
Training camp
On Thursday, July 24, at 1 p.m., the library has Every Hero Has a Story: Super Hero Training Camp. Think you have what it takes to be a super hero? We'll test your powers with feats of skill and daring and lots of fun. Super Hero snacks are sure to be provided. This program is part of our Every Hero Has a Story Summer Reading Program and is appropriate for kids going into kindergarten through grade two. Registration is required.
Book sale
On Friday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., come to the library for the annual library book sale. Gently used books at great prices.
