Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, July 10, 2019

Zachary Stevenson will perform at the Middleburgh Library on July 21 at 4 p.m. as part of the library’s Not So Quiet Concert Series.

Named one of the top 10 talents to watch by the Vancouver Sun, Stevenson is an accomplished singer, songwriter, actor, and multi-instrumentalist. With a bachelor of fine arts degree in theater, he has been featured both as an actor and musician in major theaters and concert venues across North America from Victoria to Halifax, from the Queen Charlotte Islands to New York City.

With five albums, three solo and two with Toronto’s The Human Statues, he’s been featured at the Ottawa Folk Fest, Blue Skies Festival, Summerfolk, Winterfolk (Toronto), Folk Alliance (Memphis), North East Regional Folk Alliance (New York) and the Ottawa Blues Festival.

This event is made possible in part with public funds from the Decentralization Program and the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Community Arts Grant Program by the Greene County Council on the Arts.

No registration is required. Tickets are available at the door. A $10 donation is suggested. Please use the library’s back entrance.

Mahjong Mania

During July and August, the Mahjong Mania group meets on Monday afternoons from 1:30 to 5 p.m. A spirited group of people get together in the Community Room to play Mahjong. Don't know how to play?  No problem! They will teach you how. No registration is required.  

Star Wars Roleplaying Game  

Join us on July 15 at 2 p.m. for this game where the galaxy has been torn apart by a civil war. In this fast paced, adventurous, and fun rpg, you take the part of a rebel soldier struggling against the epic might of the Galactic Empire. Do you have what it takes to restore peace to the galaxy?  This program is appropriate for kids going into sixth grade.

Drop-in Storytime

On July 16, at 10:45 a.m. come enjoy this fun and interactive program  meant for children ages 0 to 5 and their caregivers, although older siblings are always welcome! We read books, sing songs, play games, dance and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required! 

Family Film

On July 16 at 1 p.m. the library will be showing  "The Iron Giant" rated PG. Hogarth Hughes just rescued an enormous robot that fell from the stars to Earth. Now young Hogarth has one very big friend and an even bigger problem: how do you keep a 50-foot-tall, steel-eating giant a secret?  Free popcorn! This program is for all ages No registration required.

Insight Meditation 

On July/16  at 5:15 p.m. join us for Insight Meditation. What do you want most deeply Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this. Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in day-dreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts. Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving-kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced mediators', teens to seniors.  give it a try. No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome. 

Preschool Cooking and Storytime Popcorn

On July 17 at 11 a.m. come enjoy  this fun program and learn all about popcorn! How was popcorn discovered? How is it cooked? Make a popcorn necklace! We will read a book, play some popcorn games and make and eat some popcorn! This program is for kids ages 2 to 6. Registration is required!

A Universe of Lego's 

On July 17 at 1 p.m.  come have fun with A Universe of Lego's.  With as many bricks as there are stars in the galaxy, you will be able to create rocket ships, space stations and whole alien worlds out of Lego®!   This program is for kids going into grades 2 to 5. Registration is required.

Wildlife Rehabilitator

On July 18 at 1 p.m.  join wildlife rehabilitator Kelly Martin as she speaks to us about what she does rescuing and helping wild animals. She will bring some of the animals that are currently being helped!  This program is for all ages. Registration is required.

Starfinder

On July 18 at 1 p.m. join us for Starfinder a sci-fi based role playing game, similar to dungeons and dragons. Players will have the option to use pre-generated characters or create their own.  Space is limited and registration is required. This program is for kids going into sixth grade and up.

Super Duper Salad Bar

On July 19 at 1 p.m. join us for our famous Super Duper Salad Bar, that the kids create! Get ready to shred, cut, slice and tear your way into fruits and vegetables. Maybe you'll be whipping up the salad dressing or slicing up the cucumbers? We'll definitely all be eating it in the end!  This program is for kids going into second through fifth grade. Registration is Required.
