Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, July 3, 2019

On Monday, July 8, from 1 to 5 p.m., a spirited group of people will get together as they do every week in the Community Room of the Middleburgh Library to play Mahjong.

Don’t know how to play? No problem! They will teach you how. No registration is required. Please note, Mahjong in on Mondays during July and August.

Star Wars Role-Playing Game

On July 8 at 2 p.m., you’ll find the galaxy has been torn apart by a civil war. In this fast-paced, adventurous, and fun rpg, you take the part of a rebel soldier struggling against the epic might of the Galactic Empire.

Do you have what it takes to restore peace to the galaxy? This program is appropriate for kids going into the sixth grade.

Trustees meet

On July 8 at 6 p.m., the Middleburgh Board of Trustees will meet. The public is welcome.

Drop-in Story Time

On July 9 at 10:45 a.m., a fun and interactive story time will be held for children up to age 5 and their caregivers, although older siblings are always welcome. We read books, sing songs, play games, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required! 

Insight Meditation

On July 9, at 5:15 p.m. join us for Insight Meditation. What do you want most deeply? Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this. Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in day-dreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts.

Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving-kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced mediators, teens to seniors. Give it a try. No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome.

Super Family Crafts

On July 10 at 2 p.m., join us while we pull out all of our craft supplies! Make a collage, make a portrait, or maybe just make a mess! 

 Life-Size Solar System

On July 10 at 7 p.m., enjoy a full-immersion walk through our solar system, Visitors of any age can spiral into the solar system on a glow-in-the-dark path past planets with their moons; they may also read about their discovery and the elements that they are made of.

Dodge asteroids as you spiral out, and learn about constellations and comets too. This program will inspire young and old alike to learn more about what science is doing to explore our solar system. This program is for children of all ages.  Registration is required.

Starfinder

Starfinder is a sci-fi based role-playing game, similar to Dungeons and Dragons.  Players on July 11 at 1 p.m. will have the option to use pre-generated characters or create their own.

Space is limited and registration is required. This program is appropriate for kids going into sixth grade and up.

Book talk

On July 11 at 1 p.m., Wanda Fischer will present her book, “Empty Seats.” Here's a synopsis of the book from The Daily Gazette: “It’s a tale of three young men who had been stars in their respective hometowns. When they’re drafted by the Montreal Expos and come together in Jamestown, New York, in 1972 to play minor-league ball, they find it’s like starting over again: No one knows who they are or what they’re capable of doing on the baseball diamond.”

Movie

On July 12 at 5:30 p.m., come to Dinner & A Movie — Family Edition for “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” which is rated PG.

Our popular Dinner & A Movie Event is especially for families. The library will provide pizza and drinks and you bring a dessert or a snack to share. This program is part of our A Universe of Stories Summer Reading Program and is for families of all ages.
