Middleburgh Library Notes for Friday, May 13, 2016

On Monday, May 16, at 2 p.m., come to the Middleburgh Library and experience the latest trend in relaxation, adult coloring books. Studies show coloring can have a calming effect on the adult mind and helps promote overall wellness. Coloring pages designed especially for adults as well as colored pencils will be provided. Coffee and tea will be available.

This will be a recurring program. We will meet every the third  Monday of the month at 2 p.m., and registration is required.  

Story time

On Tuesday, May 17, at 10:45 a.m., join us at the library for drop-in story time. Get ready to move in this interactive story time designed especially for children up to age 5 and their caregivers. We’ll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required.

Mahjong Mania

On Tuesday, May 17, at 1 p.m. men and women are invited to come learn the game of Mahjong.  No experience or registration is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun.

Insight Meditation

On Tuesday, May 17, at 5:15 p.m. join us for a simple group Zazen meditation practice. All are welcome. No registration is required.

Book discussion

On Tuesday, May 17, at 7 p.m., join us to discuss  "The Brass Verdict" by Michael Connelly. Arguably this country's best crime yarn spinner, Connelly has not only concocted an extremely clever plot for the second novel featuring Lincoln lawyer Mickey Haller, he has included his longtime series hero Harry Bosch as a supporting player in the who- and why-dun-it.  Books are available at the circulation desk.  No registration required.

Chair Yoga

On Wednesday, May 18, at 9 a.m. join Vicki DeGroff in the community room for Chair Yoga. There is a $5 donation.

Discovery Wednesday

On Wednesday, May 18, at 11 a.m., get ready for “Space the Final Frontier.”  Make a paper airplane rocket, creat star pictures, and build a space ship big enough to ride on. This program is appropriate for ages 3 and up and their caregivers. Registration is required. You can register online at www.middleburghlibrary.info.

Movie

On Wednesday, May 18, at 1 p.m., join us for the Wednesday Matinee showing of "He Named Me Malala," rated  PG-13.

Kundalini Yoga

On Wednesday, May 18, at 5 p.m., join us for Kundalini Yoga. It involves repetitive movements with the breath, building strength, toning the nerves, and clearing the adrenal glands.  Wear comfortable clothing and bring two blankets or a mat and blanket. A $5 donation is requested. Please use the back entrance when entering the building.  No registration is required.

Tai Chi

On Thursday, May 19, at 10 a.m. join us for Beginning Tai Chi or at 11 a.m. for Advanced Tai Chi. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Registration is suggested.

Knitting Circle

On Thursday, May 19, at 7 p.m., the friendly ladies knit and crochet, embroider, and quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here, share your own special talents with others or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime. No registration is required.

More knitting

On Saturday, May 21, at 12:30 p.m., join us for  Knitting Needle Ninjas. Hey you knitters (and crocheters) you all rock. But there are tons of people out here who want to join your club and learn how to knit or crochet. Come out and teach your skill to a child, teen, or adult.  We will begin meeting Saturday afternoons at 12:30 p.m., to start, but will adjust the day and time if needed.

Meet the author

On Saturday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m., come to the library and meet the author Anita Sanchez of “In Praise of Poison Ivy.”  This book follows the trail of poison ivy as it encounters an engaging cast of historical characters, including explorers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and royalty.  The book includes informational sidebars on identifying poison ivy, how to cope with that insanely itchy rash, and “green” methods of coping with the plant.  Registration is required.  Books will be available from the author.
