Middleburgh Library Notes for Thursday, April 18, 2019

Come to the Middleburgh Library on April 23 at 10:45 a.m. for Drop-in Story Time.

This fun and interactive program is meant for children up to age 5 and their caregivers, although older siblings are always welcome.

We read books, sing songs, play games, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required.

Mahjong Mahjong

On April 23, from 1 to 4 p.m., a spirited group of people will get together in the library’s Community Room, as they do every Tuesday, to play Mahjong.

Don’t know how to play? No problem! They will teach you how. No registration is required.  

Insight Meditation

On April 23, at 5:15 p.m., a meditation group will meet at the library.

What do you want most deeply? Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this. Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in daydreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts.

Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced mediators, teens to seniors.

Give it a try. No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome.

Candy and a Movie

On April 24 at 1 p.m. come to the library and enjoy "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"

Join us while we watch the movie and eat some delicious candy. Registration is required.

Moon Walk

On April 23 at 10:30 a.m. join us for an  Indoor walking workout. During this time of year when the weather is unpredictable, walking outside can be a challenge. Why not walk with us inside the library as we work through Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home workout videos. These “Walking” workouts burn more calories than a stroll around the park because they focus on a series of multi-muscle moves. A higher muscle engagement leads to higher calorie burn and of course more muscle tone all while being easy on the joints! Walking is the most natural and effective way to health and wellness, and works for anyone, any age, any size and anywhere. Classes with be 30 to 40 minutes long with time for cool down and conversation and will be led by our resident yoga instructor Vicki DeGroff. Please wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing. Registration is required. Walk ends on April 25.

For The Birds

On April 25 from 1 to 2 p.m. enjoy this  program is for kids in preschool through sixth grade. Join us while we learn about birds in this hands-on program! We will talk about birds, be birds and experiment why all types of birds have different beaks and claws. Make a bird feeder to take home and a bird treat to leave for the birds at the libraries new bird space! Registration is required.

Spinning

On April 25 at 4 p.m. join us for Angora Wool Spinning  for kids in Kindergarten on up. Angora rabbits provide the softest fiber for spinning, and enjoy being groomed to remove their long continuously growing coats. After making their very own drop spindle, kids get to brush rabbits to collect fiber. Then they can spin the softest yarn for themselves and bring it home. Learn proper rabbit care and maintenance, along with information on how to manage your own angora rabbit farm.  Registration is required.

Tai Chi

On April 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. join us for  Tai Chi and Qigong, from China, the cultivation of human energy Gentle slow movements, strengthen the body and calm the mind. These practices have been used for agility, balance, cognition and longevity. Suggested donation, $5. Please use back entrance as the library is closed on Fridays.

Hearthstone

On April 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. come to the Hearthstone Fireside Gathering. This program is for kids ages 12-18. Registration is required, please call, sign up online, or stop at the circulation desk. Hey Teens! Do you love Hearthstone? Looking for other worthy opponents to challenge? Want to just enjoy the game with likeminded Hearthstone players in our area? Then Fireside Gatherings are exactly what you’re looking for! No worries if you haven't played. Get the app and bring your device to the program. All experience levels are welcome! Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Create flowers

On April 27 at 1 p.m. enjoy Woven Blooms for kids 7 and up. What better way to celebrate Spring than to create some colorful flowers using simple materials! Children will color a pre-cut flower using markers or crayons, then learn to weave in a circle to fill in the center of the flower. Fringes and beads will finish off the center of these beautiful blooms. Registration is required.
