Guilderland Library Notes for Tuesday, November 26, 2013
So, uh, you tweens out there: Do you have a clue as to what you’re going to give the adults in your life this holiday season? Just possibly, the staff at the Guilderland Public Library can help.
Come to the library on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., and learn how to Stitch a Gift! You’ll find out how to make the coolest treasures (believe us; the folks will love it) by cross-stitching using plastic canvas, needle and yarn. Draw your own design, stitch it, and then turn it into a keychain or an ornament … or a gift.
Call us at 456-2400, ext. 4, and let us know you’ll be there.
Sisters
If the classic movie the library is showing on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m., does not get you into the holiday spirit, then we don’t know what will.
Think Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and sisters Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. (Throw in Dean Jagger and Mary Wickes for good measure.) Add a failing Vermont inn, and the plot line of a successful song-and-dance team becoming romantically involved with a sister act, and you have two hours of warm and fuzzy moments. It’s all about what happens one white Christmas.
The popcorn we serve just makes the whole experience a classic.
Lego Club
Our Li’l Lego Club for children in kindergarten through grade 2 meets on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 3:30 p.m., in the story hour room. Young children will gather and create imaginative, wondrous “what-is-that?” structures with Legos.
It’s all about imagination and creative play with friends. Bring your own bricks or create with ours. As usual, creations that you bring to show off will be kept separate from the library supplies. Please call 456-2400, ext. 4 so we can “block” out some space for you.
Monsters at your university?
There probably weren’t monsters where you went to school, so if you want to find out what the experience would’ve been like, then you need to come to the First Friday film on Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.
Take a trip back in time to when star Monsters, Inc. employees were just two promising young students at Monsters University in this fun Disney/Pixar prequel.
Bus trip
For all of you who’ve signed up for the Dec. 7, bus trip to New York City please come to the library well before the bus trip’s 7:30 a.m. departure time. The busses will leave at 7:30 a.m., sharp. Rosters showing what bus you’re on will be posted in front of the library.
Please park your car along the Western Ave. side of the parking lot; this makes it easier for our daily customers to use the library.
And, just a reminder that if you’re planning on visiting the 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial, you need to know that you must make reservations ahead of time at www.911memorial.org/visit. There is a nominal $2 processing charge per person.
