Guilderland Library Notes for Thursday, October 7, 2021

Following years of planning and a major expansion and renovation project that kicked off in October 2020, we are beyond ecstatic to welcome patrons back into our freshly-enhanced facility! Please bear with us, as construction is not totally complete, due to supply chain disruption.  

Currently available:

— Browsing the stacks;

— Reference;

— Holds shelf pick-ups — check out materials at the circulation desk; use self-checkout kiosks, or use the UHLS Capira app;

— Curbside — schedule to pick up in the lobby the following day;

— Photocopying;

— Print on demand service;

— Programs in-person at Tawasentha Park (masks required);

— Virtual programs; and

— Digital resources 24/7.

Masks are required to enter the library. We appreciate your cooperation, and have masks on hand for adults and children if needed. As of now, 100 patrons are able to browse the library at one time. We kindly request that you limit your visit to 30 minutes. All fines continue to be waived (since March 2020).

We appreciate your understanding that we aren’t totally done with the building project just yet. Still to come: meeting and study rooms; new public computers; exhibit space; car-charging stations; hearing-assistance technology; furniture; and the new café.  

GPL policies based on current COVID conditions are outlined in our newly-revised Pandemic Operations Plan, accessible on our website. We hope to see you here soon! Current hours are: Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m; Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  
 

Night Owls Online

We’re reading the acclaimed bestseller "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer in advance of our October online meetup. Please reserve a copy (call or email us at for assistance placing a hold), then register on the Events tab of our website for the link to participate in our book discussion on Monday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Activity Kit

This kit includes a copy of Duck Stays in the Truck, by Doreen Cronin, a duck puppet craft, and suggestions for indoor camping at home. Please register on the Events tab of our website, then pick up starting Tuesday, Oct. 12.
 

Fall Card Project

We’re bringing back our popular card project to help support our friends at Community Caregivers as they serve the people around us. This can be an individual or family project - all ages are welcome to join the fun and spread the joy to someone who may feel lonely or isolated and could use a boost.

Create or repurpose one or more cards no larger than 5-by7 inches; envelopes will be provided by Community Caregivers, and they will address and mail all cards received.

Adding an uplifting message inside your card and signing it are optional. Drop off your card in our lobby from Wednesday, Oct. 20, to  Saturday, Nov. 6

Drug Take-Back Day

GPL and the Guilderland Police Department are teaming up again for semi-annual nationwide Drug Take-Back Day, a one-day collaborative effort focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our medicine cabinets.  This drive-through event will be held in the library's parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
