Guilderland Library Notes for Wednesday, September 23, 2020

“Bark, George” by Jules Feiffer is featured in a half-mile Guilderland Public Library StoryWalk at Tawasentha Park. To access the StoryWalk, park at the Winter Recreation Parking Lot and follow the blue Wildlife Preserve Loop, across the bridge from the Main Park Loop. This project was supported by a grant from the Upper Hudson Library System, and is co-sponsored by the town of Guilderland.
A special meeting of the Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m., streamed live on our Facebook page. The purpose of this meeting is to review all bids submitted for our building project and award the construction contract.

Cooking outdoors
There’s something about cooking outside that makes the finished product that much more appetizing, especially in the crisp fall air. Enjoy the great outdoors with us Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. while perfecting your grilling technique.
Karen Roberts Mort from Cornell Cooperative Extension will demonstrate outdoor cooking methods while preparing some tasty recipes. This adult program will be held in-person at the large pavilion at Tawasentha Park in Guilderland. Seating is limited, and advance online registration is required.
Program guidelines:
— Masks are required;
— Please maintain social distancing of six or more feet from others;
— If you or a member of your household is feeling ill, have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or are exhibiting symptoms, please do not attend; and
— GPL and Cornell Cooperative Extension staff will conduct their own health screenings in advance of the program.
For safety reasons, food samples will not be shared. However, cookbooks chock-full of tasty recipes for cooking outdoors will be. Hope to see you there!

Grab-n-Go Story Times
Every other Monday in October, we'll have a storytime kit available for you and your little one(s) for curbside pickup, while supplies last. Our next storytime kits will be ready for pickup Monday, Oct. 5 and 19, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Each thematic kit will contain suggestions for books, rhymes and songs to share together, plus one or more fun surprise activities. Storytimes are recommended for ages 2 to 5, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Voting and
presidential history
On Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m., we’re kicking off a civic series entitled .Re-examining the Right to Vote with Laurie Kozakiewicz, Ph.D, history professor at the University at Albany. Subsequent sessions are scheduled for Oct. 20 and 27.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13 and the Lessons of Presidential History will be presented by Dr. Bruce Miroff, UAlbany professor of political science. An examination of themes in the history of presidential elections can cast a fresh light on current events, and what could unfold in this year's contest. Dr. Miroff, shares the lessons from the past that have helped shape the presidency in its current form.

Night Owls Online
On Monday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., our virtual book club will talk about “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” by Kim Michele Richardson, available on Hoopla in eBook and audiobook format.
