Guilderland Library Notes for Thursday, September 19, 2013
Published authors from throughout Albany County are invited to bring their works and promote them at the Guilderland Public Library’s Local Author Book Fair on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The event kicks off with a keynote talk by New York Times bestselling author Joseph E. Persico – who will be a huge draw – so this is an ideal venue for every self-published or traditionally published author to gain additional exposure. Along with the opportunity to sell your books to the public — right before the holidays, too – you’ll also have a chance to reach out and connect with other area authors, speak with fans interested in your work, and possibly market your books to new and unexpected channels.
The library is well known as a venue for literary events. It has hosted capacity crowds that heard author talks by Joyce Carol Oates, Civil War novelist Jeff Shaara, authors and journalists Paul Grondahl and Gregory Maguire, sportscaster Tim Green, Holocaust survivor Ela Stein Weissberger, artist and writer Will Moses, New Yorker magazine Cartoon Editor Bob Mankoff, Lincoln historian and author Harold Holzer, and crime novelist Alafair Burke. Such events attract people from as far away as the Berkshires and the North Country, to the mid-Hudson college communities and beyond.
The fair is promoted by the library on the front page of its current newsletter (circulation 19,000), on the organization’s website at www.guilpl.org) Facebook page (“Guilderland.Library), Twitter feed (@GuilderlandLib), and to the area’s print and electronic news media.
If you’re interested in being part of this signal literary event (note: there are no fees), please contact Natalie McDonough, director of Programming and Public Services, at 456-2400, ext. 122, or e-mail public@guilpl.org.
