Guilderland Library Notes for Thursday, August 22, 2013
If you have not visited the Guilderland Public Library in the past week or so, you may not know that returning books in off hours, or when it’s raining, snowing, sleeting, or when you just don’t want to get out of the car, is now easier than ever before thanks to our brand-new drive-up book drop.
This book drop is located at the library’s driveway exit on Mercy Care Lane and takes just about everything: books, DVDs, CDs; just pull around and drop in your returns. The one thing you cannot return via any book drop is a museum pass; you need to bring it inside and hand it to a member of our circulation staff.
Book donations
If you have books you want to donate to the library, but you don’t think they’re popular enough to sell at the Book Nook or better book sales, you can still make a difference: Put them into the big green box – it says Better World Books – located in the staff parking lot.
The library has arranged with Better World Books to take books you donate and find them a new home; this is a relationship BWB has with many other libraries. One direct benefit is that the library earns a small amount of money from your donation. Furthermore, with every single book that BWB sells, funding is generated to support literacy programs. This sustainable solution has diverted tens of millions of books from landfills, and thanks to your help, it will continue to do so.
Local author book fair
Published authors from throughout Albany County are invited to bring their works and promote them at the library’s Local Author Book Fair on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Every self-published or traditionally published author is encouraged to take part. If you’re interested in taking part in this event (note: there are no fees), contact Natalie McDonough, Head of Programming and Public Services, at 456.2400, ext. 122, or e-mail her at mcdonoughn@guilpl.org.
Library closed
The library will be closed Saturday Aug. 31 through Monday Sept. 2 for the Labor Day Holiday.
