Guilderland Library Notes for Friday, July 1, 2016
The Guilderland Public Library’s “Super Summer Reading Olympics” reading club kick-off is on. Young readers, be sure to come to the library on Thursday, June 30, at 6 p.m., in the library’s Normanskill Room. Children, tweens, and teens can sign-up to be summer readers, collect program information, and ask our staff any questions they might have.
While you’re here, enter a drawing for a chance to win your own Summer Reading Club T-shirt. And at 7 p.m., be sure to grab a free ice cream sundae.

Ribbon-cutting on the roof?
Thanks to grants received through the efforts of Senator George A. Amedore, Jr. and Assemblyperson Patricia Fahy, the library has a new roof, all-new energy-efficient lighting, and an improved loading dock. These projects will be officially unveiled by Senator Amedore, Assemblyperson Fahy, Town Supervisor Peter Barber, Library Foundation President Rosemary Revoir, and Guilderland School District representatives Marie Wiles, Neil Sanders and Cliff Nooney at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the library on Thursday, June 30, at 5:30 p.m.
Ideally, the ceremony would be on the roof, but it’s more likely to occur in front of the library’s main entrance. Time will tell.
All are invited to attend. Stop by, enjoy some refreshments, and chat with your local officials. And be sure to bring your young readers so they can sign up for the Summer Reading Club that evening starting at 6 p.m.
Summer kids movie
On Friday, July 1 at 2 p .m., the movie “Road Chip” will be playing at GPL. This 2015 movie is rated PG, and is 92 minutes long.
Summer hours and the Fourth of July
With the coming of summer, GPL shifts to summer hours. During July and August, the library is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and closed on Sunday. This means that GPL will be closed Sunday, July 3.
The library will be closed Monday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday.
