Christopher Aldrich, on June 12, received the 2018 Library Trustee of the Year Award from the Upper Hudson Library System, a cooperative association of 29 autonomous public libraries serving the 446,626 residents of Albany and Rensselaer counties.

Mr. Aldrich provided dedicated leadership and valued counsel as a Guilderland Public Library Trustee for nine years, and was instrumental in the May 21 referendum approval as chairman of the Design Steering Committee. His positive contributions to the library and the greater Guilderland community will reverberate for years to come.

“If Beale Street Could Talk”

Our Oscar-caliber film series continues with “If Beale Street Could Talk,” on Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m.

The film tells the story of a young black couple ripped apart in early 1970s Harlem by the scheme of a racist cop. Tish and her fiancé Fonny dream of a future together, but their plans are derailed when Fonny is arrested for a crime he did not commit.

Regina King won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her performance in this film.  Also starring Kiki Layne and Stephan James.

Llama Extravaganza

Celebrate National Llama Appreciation Day with us!  Bring the whole family Friday, June 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. to meet live llamas and an alpaca, courtesy of Wunsapana Farm in Altamont.

We’ll have a llama-themed storytime, crafts, and a visit from the one and only “Llama Llama in Red Pajamas” to add to the fun-o-rama.  

Pet safety and first aid

On Saturday, June 22 at 2 p.m., veterinarians from Guilderland Animal Hospital will share practical tips to help keep your pets safe and healthy. We'll also be collecting new pet toy donations to benefit the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

Just stop by — no need to register, but please leave your pets at home.  

Final-exam prep

We’ve got middle and high school students cramming for exams covered.

Plan to meet in the Normanskill Room with your study buddies from 5-8pm on Mon. June 24 and Tuesday,  June 25. We reserve this space to help you ace!

“On the Basis of Sex”

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the subject of the final film in our current series: “On the Basis of Sex.” Join us for a viewing Thursday,une 27 at 6:30 p.m.

This movie depicts Bader Ginsburg’s professional ascent as she focuses on gender equality by proving discrimination “on the basis of sex” is unconstitutional. The film stars Felicity Jones, Armie Hammer, Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates, and Sam Waterston.  

Summer Reading

A Universe of Stories blasts off Friday, June 28! Stop by either from 3 to 4 p.m. or from 6 to 7 p.m. for ice cream and information on all the stellar selections awaiting you: An enticing host of activities spanning early childhood to adult promises to keep everyone engaged, educated and entertained throughout the summer.

Farmers’ market

Sunday, June 30, is “Meet Your Neighbor” day at the Guilderland Farmers’ Market. We’ll be there — joining local and regional farmers, crafters, artists and food artisans — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tiny Tots Tummy Time

Every Monday in June from 1 to 1:45 p.m., pediatric occupational therapist Amber Chaves offers tummy time for babies six weeks to rolling over, accompanied by their caregiver.

Bonding, sensory stimulation, baby massage and other therapeutic benefits are covered. Quality tummy time now supports school readiness later!
