Guilderland Library Notes for Thursday, March 21, 2019

Can playing a musical instrument make you smarter? Strong evidence suggests it can.

Case in point: Albert Einstein, arguably the most renowned scientist who ever lived, was also an avid music enthusiast. Playing violin was more than a pleasurable activity; it often ignited the creative spark to help him devise solutions.

Join us at the Guilderland Public Library on Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. to discover how music education at any age can sharpen your brain. University at Albany Neuroscientist Dr. Ewan McNay will cover the myriad lifelong benefits playing music has on cognitive health.

Trivia Night: USA

How much do you know about the United States?  Will you claim your slice of American pie — or humble pie? It’s all in good fun!

We’re serving up a fun-filled night of red, white and blue trivia Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m., including questions on the civics exam given to secure U.S. citizenship. Teens and adults, please register by phone, online or in person.

Intro to beekeeping

If you like to eat, you should be concerned about bees. Their numbers have been dwindling at alarming rates, and colony collapse is escalating each year. In fact, at the current rate, managed honeybees will disappear by 2035.

Curious what you can to reverse this devastating trend? Find out more Saturday March 23 at 2 p.m. as the experts from the Southern Adirondack Beekeepers Association cover the basics that can help you get started with beekeeping.

Elementary art on display

Beginning Wednesday March 27, the walls of our Helderberg Room will be graced with the artwork of Guilderland Elementary School students.

Viewing these heartfelt creations always elicits a smile. We invite you to come take a peek at the burgeoning talent in our community. This display will continue throughout the month of April.
