Guilderland Library Notes for Wednesday, February 18, 2015

Calling all children ages three through eight! If you like to make crafts, then come to the Guilderland Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., for a “Kids’ Crafter-noon.”

You can choose from an array of craft projects, and make the ones that appeal to you the most.  No need to register; just come in and craft away.

Make Your Photos Look like those of Ansel Adams

On Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m., the Photo Forum’s Herb Brown will demonstrate some free photo editing software called Lightzone, which was devised to mimic the iconic “zone system” made famous by the photographer Ansel Adams.

Teen Trivia Night

Teens are invited to join us for an exciting evening of trivia on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m.  GPL’s own trivia maven — Kristina — will lead the fun. Join us for a fun and friendly competition testing your knowledge of VUBI (Vaguely Useful Bits of Information).

Bear Snores On

Children in pre-kindergarten through grade two are invited to bring an adult caregiver to the “Bear Snores On” program lead by local PBS Station WMHT’s Barbara Lukas; it all starts at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 21.

You will hear Ms. Lukas read books about what animals do in winter and then watch a DVD and do a craft based on the book, Bear Snores On, by Karma Wilson.

Every child will receive a copy of the book to take home.  Each child must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Classic films

Many of us have had invisible friends as children, but they generally fade away as we get older.  Not so in the charming 1950 flick, starring the adult Jimmy Stewart and his long-eared companion Harvey, which screens at GPL on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m. Popcorn will be served.
