Thompsons Lake
On Monday, Feb. 9, it snowed all day. We ended up with 14-inches of snow.
My daughter, Marcia Pangburn, dropped her daughter, Kyra, off at my house because school was closed. Kyra and I enjoyed scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast.
Then we enjoyed lunch together. She had a sandwich and I had a salad and then we discussed what subjects she might take next year, because she is going into ninth grade. She is interested in becoming a hair stylist.
Marcia, Kyra, and I had lasagna for dinner.
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, I ate breakfast and then drove to my daughter, Kathy Carnevale’s house. She drove me to Latham for a mammogram and done density test.
We then enjoyed lunch at Ruby Tuesday’s. After that Kathy picked up mild for me, drove me to The Enterprise office and post office.
I went home tired but had accomplished all my errands.
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, I called my sister-in-law, Linda Richardson, to tell her again how bad I feel for her having lost her son, Michael.
Then my grandson, Brandon Clark, picked me up and I went to Cobleskill with him on his dinner visit with his children, Samson and Nichole. We ate at the Red Apple. They didn’t have homework so Nichole put a puzzle together, and Brandon and Samson played Operation. Then we all played Memory.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, I talked with my granddaughter, Kassi Neal, on planning dates for her upcoming wedding.
Then I called my niece, Teri Barton, to console her on the loss of her brother, Mike. Brandon came by with candy for me for Valentine’s Day and then little Iain Bullis came in and gave me a rose. How sweet.
I went to bed worrying about the house getting cold with the low temperatures and fierce winds.
On Friday, Feb. 13, I did wake up to minus 10 degrees. I went to the bank and grocery store. I left my cane in the cart at the supermarket. I had a cold and was in a hurry. I called the store and they are holding it for me.
On Saturday, Feb. 14, I woke up to minus five degrees. I went with my daughter, Marcia, to the Home Front where we met my sister, Pat Sykala. Marcia was having Pat file her income tac. We always had our friend, Brian Hougkamp, fo our taxes but sadly, we lost a best friend.
I prepared salmon, mashed potatoes, gravy, and fresh broccoli for dinner. Brandon, Jenn Smith, and Marcia joined me.
My daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Gary Carnevale, stopped by and gave me a Valentine’s heart filled with chocolates.
Later on Saturday evening I received a call from Moe Safford that Thompson’s Lake Church would be closed on Sunday, because of the strong winds.
Sunday, Feb. 15, came with a temperature of five above zero and as low as minus 50 wind chill. I wrote out some bills and a letter to a friend. I called my best friend, Barbara Bonneau and Pay’s sister, Betty Bates, in Whitehall.
I am home more lately because of deep snow and frigid temperatures, but I am surrounded by love.
Lenten service
The Hilltown churches come together each year during Lent to worship together as we prepare for the celebration of Easter by reflecting on the reason for Jesus’s passion.
On Wednesday, Feb.25, the service will be held at Berne Reformed Church with Pastor Wendy Cook as the preacher.
The theme is “The Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden, given then denied”, based on Genesis 2:8-9; 15-18; 3:22-24.
Following the Wednesday night services there is a time of food and fellowship.
Come and join in this spiritual experience of worship and community. The service begins at 7 p.m.
