Guard promotes

These members of the New York Army National Guard were recently promoted:

— Michael Downs from Schenectady, serving with the Company D, 3-142nd Aviation was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant;

— James Hilton from Rensselaerville, serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion is promoted to the rank of private first class;

— Brenden Okeefe from Berne, serving with the Intelligence and Sustainment Company, 42nd Infantry Division is promoted to the rank of private first class; and

— Santiago Idlet from Schenectady, serving with the A Troop, 2-101 Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition) is promoted to the rank of private.

Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.

  • Applications open for grants to upgrade municipal parks

    ALBANY COUNTY — Albany County is now accepting applications for grants to enhance, improve, or develop city, town, and village-owned parks, playgrounds, or recreational facilities.

    Grants are capped at $15,000 each from the $150,000 available. The deadline to apply is June 30.
