An outdoor search for the American woodcock will be conducted at 7 p.m. at 56 Game Farm Road, Delmar. For several decades, changing land use practices and other factors have had a significant negative effect on woodcock populations throughout the eastern seaboard. But they’re doing fine at Five Rivers! On this outdoor survey, center naturalists will discuss the natural history of this squatty gamebird, then lead participants through prime habitat, hoping to witness the woodcock’s remarkable courtship flight. The program, sponsored by the Hudson Mohawk Bird Club, is open to the public free of charge. Participants are urged to bring binoculars and dress for outdoor activity.
