2015 marked 50 years since the landmark civil rights march spearheaded by Martin Luther King, Jr. from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, that helped to secure equal voting rights for blacks. This evening’s program will include a showing of the movie, Selma, followed by a discussion facilitated by Professor Paul Murray, PhD from Siena College, an expert on the Civil Rights movement. Susan Butler, a Civil Rights activist who participated as a Freedom School teacher in Mississippi during the 1964 Freedom Summer and who marched during the Selma to Montgomery event, will share a firsthand account of her experience. Refreshments will be provided. The program is suitable for high school students and up.
