Sunday, January 21, at 2:00 p.m.: “What Brought the Dutch to the Hudson Valley” at Thacher Visitor Center

Hear the fascinating story of the creation of the United Provinces of the Netherlands in the seventeenth century. It is a story of a revolt against the Spanish empire, which in many ways mirrors our own struggle for independence over a century later. Find out how the Dutch managed to survive after breaking with the Spanish empire by creating their own commercial empire. The growth and development of New Netherland, centered in the Hudson Valley, formed a major part of the program. Presented by Charles Gehring, Director of the New Netherland Research Center.
