On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg girls’ soccer team, the Beagles, traveled to face off against the Hoosick Falls Panthers at the George Helft Soccer Complex. The teams battled hard for 80 minutes but the Beagles allowed a late goal and fell 2-1.
On Friday, Oct. 4, the Voorheesville girls’ soccer players had their homecoming weekend as they took on their rival, Schalmont. On Monday, the Blackbirds fell to those same Sabres’ 5 to 1; they had their rematch Friday but fell, 2 to 0.
Last Thursday, Oct. 3, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo volleyball team traveled to Schoharie High School to take on the Storm. The Bulldogs battled but fell in straight sets (21-25, 17-25, 19-25).
Last Wednesday, Oct. 2, the Guilderland Unified bocce team hosted the season and home opener at the Italian American Community Center against Albany. Both teams fought evenly till the end where the match had two roll-offs that saw Guilderland fall, 5 to 4.
On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Guilderland boys’ soccer team battled against top-seed Shaker in a midseason Suburban Council matchup at home. The Dutch scored 49 seconds in and had to fend off a hard charging Shaker team in the second half to hold on to a 1-0 win.
On Monday afternoon, Sept. 30, the Voorheesville Blackbirds faced off against Schalmont in a contest between the top teams in the Colonial Council. The two teams battled back and forth on the pitch but the Sabres snuck in the win in overtime as the Birds fell 4-3.
On Friday, Sept. 27, the Guilderland-Voorheesville swim team traveled to Schenectady High School to take on the combined team of Schenectady and Colonie. Guilderville swam to a 103-to-75 win.
Last Thursday, Sept. 26, the Guilderland girls’ volleyball team hosted a Suburban Council matchup against crosstown rival Bethlehem. Every game was back and forth; the Dutch sailed to a three sets to one win (25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16).
