On Monday, Oct. 23, the Voorheesville boys’ soccer team, the second seed in Class C, took on the 10th-seed Stillwater at home. The Birds started the scoring seven seconds into the game and won 8-0. They play tonight at 5 p.m. at Waterford in the semifinals.
On Friday, Oct. 20, the Voorheesville girls’ soccer team, the top seed in the Section 2, Class B sectionals, took on Coxsackie-Athens, the ninth seed, at home. The Birds had an easy time and won 8-0.
Last Thursday, Oct. 19, the Guilderland boys’ soccer team hosted a quarterfinal matchup in the Section 2, Class AA sectionals at home. The Dutch started quickly and didn’t take their foot off the gas all game long. Guilderland advances with a 4-to-0 win.
Last Thursday, Oct. 19, the Guilderland girls’ soccer team took to the pitch in the Section 2, Class AAA quarterfinals at home against Colonie. In a very physical matchup all game long, the Dutch couldn’t answer the late Garnett Raider goal and fell, 2-1.
Last Wednesday, Oct. 18, Guilderland’s Sean Roddy and Tim Esmay competed in the Section 2 Golf State Qualifier held at The Fairways of Halfmoon to qualify for the state competition in June. Roddy and Esmay made the cut and qualified.
On Tuesday evening, Oct. 17, the 17th seeded Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls soccer team opened up the Section 2, Class C sectional play on the road to the 16th seeded Whitehall. A quirky play for the Bulldogs netted the only goal in their 1-0 win. They will play Friday at Waterford at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Oct. 13, the Guilderland football team hosted Christian Brothers Academy. The Brothers’ defense kept the Dutch at bay and only allowed 146 of total offense. The Dutch lost, 34-0.
Last Wednesday and Friday, Oct. 11 and 13, the Guilderland and Voorheesville girls golf competed at the Edison Club in efforts to make the state competition. The Guilderland girls finished third overall. Guilderland boys took their shot for a shot for the state qualifiers on Tuesday, Oct.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, Guilderland Outdoor Track n Field attended the Greater Capital Region Track, Field and Cross Country ceremony at the Albany Marriott where they won a Scholastic and Staff of the Year awards.
On Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Voorheesville Blackbirds boys’ golf competed at the Section 2, Class CD sectionals being held at Fairways of Halfmoon in Mechanicville. Brady Carrow and Nate Magazu competed for the Birds.
The Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Voorheesville cross-country teams battled 10 other teams in pouring rain during the 84th annual Grout invitational at Schenectady’s Central Park over the weekend.
Last Thursday, Oct. 5, the Guilderland girls’ volleyball team hosted an important Suburban Council matchup against the Blue Devils of Columbia. With sectionals right around the corner, the Dutch fought hard against the Blue Devils in the three-game sweep win; 25-19, 25-17, 25-13.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Guilderland boys’ soccer team hosted Saratoga under the lights on the turf field at home. The Dutch battled hard to break through Saratoga’s defense but fell, 3 to 2.
