Anita Goutos

GUILDERLAND — Anita Goutos, of Guilderland and Lake George, helped with her husband’s dental practice and had unwavering love for her family, whom she always put first.
Her family wrote in a tribute that she “peacefully entered into eternal life” on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 90.

GUILDERLAND — Robert Blaine Stealey, who embodied the Marine Corps motto Semper Fidelis — Always Faithful, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, with his beloved family by his side following his third and valiant battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He was 72.

SCHENECTADY — Robert S. Drake Sr., fondly known as Bob, was a long-time Guilderland school leader.

He died peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at the age of 90.

Charleen Hoffman

BERNE — Charleen Hoffman is described by her family as tiny in stature but mighty in spirit.

She died peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023. She was 78.

Born in Clair, New Brunswick, she moved to Long Island as a teen and eventually settled in Berne, where she raised her children.

Cynthia L. Weldon

GUILDERLAND — Cynthia L. Weldon, the longtime head cook at Guilderland High School, was a vivacious woman with many interests.

She died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 18, surrounded by her loving family, after a short battle with cancer. She was 73.

Cornelis van der Wouden

Cornelis van der Wouden, who came to the United States from The Netherlands as a young man with a new bride, flourished in Guilderland where he raised his family and enjoyed his work as a truck driver.

He “went home to be with the Lord on January, 13, 2023,” his family wrote in a tribute. He was 89.

Elaine Relyea

BERNE — “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Relyea, completing her journey of life on earth and passing into heaven,” her family wrote in a tribute.

She died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, with her loving children by her side. She was 87.

KNOX — Archie H. “Sonny” Martell Jr., a civil engineer who served in the Air Force and loved the outdoors, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023. He was 84.

A son of the late Archie and Olive VanWie Martell, he was born on March 12, 1938.

FISHKILL — John Marion, a resident of Fishkill, New York, for the past 35 years, died on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at the Sapphire Nursing Home. He was 78 years old.

He was born on July 5, 1944, in Altamont, the son of John Doyle and Helen Shoro. He was adopted by his mother’s second husband, Albert Marion.

Joseph E. Huth, a boy from Yonkers, grew to love plants and, even after retiring from Albany County’s Cornell Cooperative Extension, continued gardening.
He lived in Colonie and Venice, Florida and died on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at the age of 91.

He was the son of Joseph C. and Sigrid Werner Huth.

KNOX — Guy M. Marhafer loved the open road, whether driving a truck or riding a Harley Davidson. Yet he always put his family first. He died on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2023. He was 69.
He was born in Niskayuna, the son of the late Charles Sr. and Wilma Marhafer.

ALBANY – Wayne D. Haley, a forklift driver with a heart of gold, died on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023. He was 62.

MEDUSA — “Jonathan Edward Case Sr., the man, the myth, the legend, left us here to mourn our great loss on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023,” his family wrote in a tribute. He was 74.

ROTTERDAM — John R. “Jack” Van Syckle III, a printer who was active in the community, as a sexton at St. John’s, rang the church bell to celebrate the end of the Vietnam War, and, as a volunteer at the Make A Wish Foundation, played Santa Claus.
