In the last game of the seventh annual holiday tournament on Tuesday evening, Dec. 27, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys’ basketball team took on Cairo-Durham in the semifinals. Both teams traded leads late before the Mustangs took the Bulldogs to overtime. The Bulldogs won, 69 to 64.
On Tuesday evening, Dec. 27, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls’ team held a seventh annual holiday tournament at home. BKW took on Loudonville Christian in the semifinals. From the opening tip to the final buzzer, the Bulldogs won, 73 to 12.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 20, the Guilderville boys swim team, made up of students from Guilderland and Voorheesville, took to their home pool to take on the Shaker Bison. Guilderville cruised to a 101-72 win.
On Sunday morning, Dec. 18, the Voorheesville indoor track team took part in the league meet 3C held at Union College. Voorheesville showed their speed and power on the track and field events. The girls team finished third with 57 points and the boys finished in eighth with 21 points.
On Saturday, Dec. 17, the Voorheesville boys basketball team took part in the 2022 Coaches versus Cancer bracket buster held at Hudson Valley Community College as they took on Hoosic Valley.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Guilderland gymnastics team showed off their skills and grace as they had their first dual meet of the season against Bethlehem at Bethlehem High School. Guilderland fell short 153.80 to 106.85.
The Guilderland girls’ wrestling team, a new team in Section 2, competed in the second annual Coxsackie-Athens girls wrestling tournament at Coxsackie-Athens High School where all 20 teams were composed of just female wrestlers.
On Friday night, Dec. 9, the Guilderland Dutchmen boys’ basketball team held their home opener for the winter season against Colonie Raiders. The tenacity of the Raider defense held the Dutch offense at bay all game long. Dutch fell 50-22.
On Tuesday evening, Dec. 6, the Voorheesville girls’ basketball team kicked off their 2022-23 home basketball season against the Albany Academy for Girls. The Bears’ full-court pressure and tight defense baffled the Birds in their 69 to 44 loss.
On Sunday morning, Dec. 4, Berne-Knox-Westerlo took to the track at Union College in Schenectady to compete in the first meet of their season. Even though there were no scoring points awarded, the young Bulldogs showed off their skills in track and field events.
The Berne-Knox-Westerlo-Middleburgh and Guilderland Dutchmen took part in the seven duel matches against the 10 different teams in the Columbia Duels held at Columbia High School in Rensselaer on the weekend of Dec. 2.
