SLINGERLANDS — The Reverend Dr. Hugh Gould Nevin Jr. of Slingerlands died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021— one week shy of his 88th birthday — after a battle with cancer.

Richard J. Flansburg

Richard J. Flansburg worked for 30 years as a truck driver for the Freihofer Bakery and one early morning saved a woman from a burning house, his daughter said.

James Alexander Snider

ALTAMONT —  James “Jim” Alexander Snider Jr., a loving husband and father of two children, died on the evening of Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, in Albany after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 84.

GUILDERLAND — Ernest “Ernie” Rau — who was proud of his children and taught them the value of hard work — died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. He was 71.

“Ernie had farming in his blood and loved working with animals and being in nature,” his family wrote in a tribute.

Henry Brezinski

BERNE — Henry Brezinski, a long-time, beloved superintendent of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo schools, died peacefully from natural causes on Jan 7, 2021 he was 95.

He was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire on Nov. 3, 1925.

 Donald E. Hackel

KNOX — Donald E. Hackel of Spring Hill, Tennessee “took his ‘Pilgrim’ journey to his forever home early morning on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021,” his family wrote in a tribute. He was 65.

EAST BERNE — Philip K. Willsie skillfully moved earth for a living, and moved heaven and earth for his family. He died on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020. He was 84.

SCHOHARIE — Carl H. Burnham Sr., a Korean War veteran who worked as an equipment operator and loved animals, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020. He was 75.

Kathryn Crane Shultes

Kathryn Crane Shultes started her career at the Pentagon and ended as a book binder. She died at The Atrium Health Center in Red Bank, New Jersey on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020. She was 97.
