Lynda Jacobson

GUILDERLAND — Lynda Jacobson was a wonderful mother and grandmother who attended all of her children’s sporting events, corrected their grammar, and taught them to “stick up for the person who was unable to do that for themselves,” recalled her son Mark Jacobson.

RENSSELAERVILLE — Thomas Hoose Smith, a veteran from Rensselaerville, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at Berkshire Rehabilitation Center in Sandisfield, Massachusetts. He was 69.

GUILDERLAND CENTER — Kathy J. Andersen, whose family said she spent her life caring for others, died at her Guilderland Center home on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. She was 63.

She was born on June 14, 1954 to the late William and Jane (née Komjathy) Herzog.

BERNE — Randy L. Brown loved his daughters and was always the loudest fan at their soccer and basketball games, said Heather Crockett, his older daughter. He died on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at age 65.

Charles J. Donato Sr., raised on a Slingerlands farm by Italian immigrants, knew the value of hard work — and of generosity.

“He was an easy-going guy, very mellow — and hardworking,” said his daughter, Bernadine Donato. “He was always helping other people.”

DELMAR — Michael Fasulo, a graphic designer and salesman, was a man of faith who loved his daughters dearly.

He died unexpectedly at his Delmar home on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017. He was 55.

SLINGERLANDS — Sanford “Sandy” Berkman was a “kind and compassionate man, and left a lasting impression on everyone he met,” his family said.

He died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at the Albany Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

GUILDERLAND — Wilhelmina “Willie” Miller was a thoughtful, loving person who was always a lot of fun, recalled her daughter, Lauren Prezorski. Mrs. Miller died unexpectedly at home on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017. She was 75.

Charles E. Pergl, a member of the first class to graduate from Guilderland High School, was inspired by a relative who once had an old-time gas station on Carman Road to build a reproduction of a gas pump complete with globe.

KNOX — Emma Daisy Bunzey Stevens was one of 10 children who raised 10 children of her own.

“She was the grand lady of Knox,” living independently at the age of 105, said her daughter Dawn Coffey.

SELKIRK — John Becker Geurtze, a man who worked hard and made a name for himself in the agricultural world, died on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at his home on Woodridge Farms. He was 88.

“Throughout his life, he did it his way,” said his daughter, Elisa Peters.

BERNE —  Jeanne (née Meacham) Wilhelm —  known as “Aunt Jeanne” to multitudes she babysat, cared for, and nurtured — died peacefully on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017.  She was 88.

“We called her the Energizer Bunny,” said her brother, Donald Meacham. “She was just so full of life and bubbly.”

BERNE — Willard J. Osterhout, a man who lived to serve his community, died on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at his Berne home surrounded by his family. He was 77.

“He was a very easygoing, friendly person,” said his daughter, Teri Osterhout. “Everybody loved him; with everybody he was generous.”

Richard J. Schager, a quiet man who loved to dance, “entered into eternal life,” his family wrote, on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was 84.
