HILLTOWNS — Are your kids looking for something fun to work on over the holiday break? How about building a sled?

The first annual joint Berne-Knox Winterfest will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Knox Town Park, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (postponed from earlier dates). A new event will be added — the Cardboard Sled race.

The theme this year is “Christmas Around the World” is the theme this year of the Albany County Historical Association’s Holiday House at the Ten Broeck Mansion, which continues through Saturday, Dec. 20. 

This winter, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission will thin trees on 85 acres in the Madison Avenue Pinelands area (Trailhead 7) of the 3,200-acre preserve.

The work is done in the winter, according to release from the commission, to lessen disruption to wildlife by avoiding the breeding season.

A new weather console at miSci is giving visitors a chance to explore the science of weather.  The console lets adults and children interact with Doppler radar activity and real-time data from the onsite WeatherBug weather station installed by National Grid.
